Review for Forests Forever Foundation, Berkeley, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've contributed in -kind hours of my professional services to this organization. Forests Forever Foundation is remarkably good at reaching out to California citizens with a well-informed and articulate approach to inspire citizen based action on forest protection. My reading of background literature and interviews with senior staff convinced me that this organization was worthy of my donated efforts to assist them with fund development.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Their efforts to inform and mobilize concerned Californians to take action on behalf of forest conservation and sustainable use of forests statewide.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The combination of enthusiasm and well-researched knowledge of forest issues.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

The Operations Director and Executive Director. Also one of their major donors.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Expand outreach in Southern California, which I understand is a major goal for 2010.

Review for Girls to Women, East Palo Alto, CA, USA

Rating: 4 stars

Ive been familiar with this organization since their inception three years ago. I was looking for an organization that will help build developmental assets for underserved girls, since I feel that my own daughter is so well cared for, I want others' to be too. I'm impressed with what Girls To Women has achieved in terms of leveraging in-kind and volunteer resources from the East Palo Alto community. They are able to bring a broad-spectrum program together to meet girls' needs and nurture healthy development in a multicultural context.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

How they seem to be able to give culturally-competent and individual attention to girls from different cultural groups.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

The combination of love and competent youth development programming expertise.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

Executive Director Program Director One major donor

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Get a bigger facility and serve more girls.

Review for San Bruno Mountain Watch, Brisbane, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've attended events that this organization has put on and volunteered with habitat restoration. Mountain Watch accomplishes an amazing amount of environmental work with few staff and not much $$. They are organizing public opinion, engaging in policy development, doing habitat restoration, and bringing kids and grownups to the mountain to learn about what it is as an open-space and habitat resource right at the foot of San Francisco and the North Peninsula

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

Working with people who care about their environment enough to get out and put some sweat equity into doing something about it at the local level.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

Buy land that isn't yet protected on the mountain and add to habitat for an amazingly large number of sensitive species, both plant and animal, including over a dozen officially-listed species.

Review for Dorothy Day House A Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation, Berkeley, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

I've volunteered for this organization as a meal server over several years. I was surprised with how much DDH does for the homeless population of our community with a small budget. The leadership seems dedicated and feedback I've provided gets responses from them. From what I've seen, the group is good at developing partnerships with other sectors of our community.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

plugging into a pretty well-organized effort that delivers tangible help to people who need it smoothly

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

good-hearted, cordial, dedicated.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

build its own facility to feed and shelter transitionally- and chronically-homeless people. They might also be able to do job or life-skills trainings. Not sure if they want to do that.
