My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Friends Of The Sixth Cavalry Museum Inc, Ft Oglethorpe, GA, USA
The museum is pretty outdated and not very professionally arranged, but it is small and just a little local place so that is to be expected, I suppose. I wouldn't send friends to it. The lady who seems to be the director was abrupt and not very friendly (not with me, because I didn't talk to her, but I heard her interactions with a couple of other people), but the man who was working there was nice. There were some nice items on display, but the manequins were silly looking, the horses, too. I guess they're doing the best they can, but it was disappointing. The fact that it's next to a Civil War battlefield helped me get over the letdown. I don't want to be too critical, but people should know what they're getting before they spend time on it. As I understand it, the history of the 6th Cavalry is very impressive. It's a shame, but I really could not in good conscience reccommend the place, but I do think it has potential. It might be more meaningful to someone connected with 6th Cavalry history.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Teach the director some manners or keep her away from the museum during visiting hours. Find someone with some experience to help make the place look better. Maybe some local college art students could help. Even some surface changes would help a lot. A better paint job would help, better colors, update display cases with paint. It doesn't cost a lot to make a big difference. The big model under glass could be nice with the help of someone with a design background. Not so 1950's looking.
