Review for RVR Horse Rescue, Riverview, FL, USA

Rating: 5 stars

In 2009 my husband lost his battle with cancer. I was lost. Several years later I found RVR Horse Rescue in Riverview, Florida. I have always loved horses, showed hunter/jumpers as a high school student, then got them again after I was married, so this seemed like a great fit for me. Little did I know how great it would be. I was amazed at the care and love all the volunteers had for these horses who found them selves in horrendous circumstances due to no fault of their own. About a month after I started there, they took in 6 horses from another "rescue". All were in horrible shape. One horse in particular was also very traumatized and had had several of his front teeth knocked out. I was able to make a connection with him, and several months later adopted him. I have seen so many stories like mine, both people and horses coming out of bad situations and learning the thrive again. RVR puts the horses first, but in doing so, helps people too. It is just such a great place with wonderful, caring volunteers.

I found RVR Horse Rescue through a volunteer site. After losing my husband nearly 5 years ago I was at odds as to what I should be doing. I visited the rescue on March 17, 2013 and feel in love with the place. the volunteers were welcoming and the horses were as well. The place is so well run by all the volunteers who give tirelessly of their time and effort it shows in all the horses. The RVR takes in the worst of the worst abuse and neglect cases and is very successful in rehabilitating most horses. They even will take turns staying with a horse 24/7 if necessary. They work to find them forever homes and keep track of them to make sure they don't end up in another rescue situation. Incredible rescue!!

I have volunteered at RVR Horse Rescue for over a year now. I have seen countess horses come in emaciated and abused. They only take the worst of the worst. Some are beyond help but they take them, love them and sometimes spend all night sitting up with them. Then let them go with dignity. Others they rehab and find forever homes for them. I adopted one who had been very badly abused having most of his top teeth knocked out. We made a connection and he is making great strides in trusting again. Every volunteer gives selfishly of their time and energy to help these horses. They couldn't find. Better place to land!

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Make sure they receive the credit they are due!

I first came to RVR on March 17, 2013 with my granddaughter. I had horses in high school and then again after I was married so they were always a big part of my life. I had never seen horses in such need of love, food and care until starting my volunteering there. Not only do they take in the most neglected and abused horses, but they also have formed an incredible family of volunteers with the same agenda - help these horses. There is nothing they wont' do to help whatever horse they take in. I love my time out there with these very lucky horses.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to get them more funds to help even more horses.
