My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for The Posse Foundation Inc, New York, NY, USA
The Foundation is an excellent program that focuses on providing financial and social support for students at private liberal arts private institutions in the United States. I read a review that the round one part of the interview process is unfair but i must respectfully disagree as a Posse alum and a current volunteer who helps with that interviewing process. Students are not only assessed by how they interact in the first group interview. That would be very biased because what if a student is having a bad day that day or is not a very vocal person in such a large group. These things are taken into consideration and other factors which includes their application and essay is weighed in the selection process.
Posse is more than financial assistance for students but its a family away from a family and I am most grateful to Posse for granting me that opportunity. Posse students are expected to, not mandated to, be leaders on the college campus they are sent to and for most posse scholars based on their past activities this is a norm for them.
in regards to the founder's salary, my personal opinion is why shouldn't someone who works hard to provide this opportunity for students in inner cities not be adequately compensated for her hard work. If you work diligently at your job and give all of yourself, would you not want to be compensated? It is absurd to believe that someone should not be properly compensated for their time, expertise and devotion in a non-profit organization. Her salary does not take away from the possible scholarship money a student may have received so why is this an issue?
The Posse Foundation is an awesome foundation. Even though its interviewing process for students are not "traditional" it works for them. I invite anyone to visit the website and see for yourself; don't take my word for it.
