My Nonprofit Reviews
Review for Family Service Association of Redlands, Redlands, CA, USA
There's a general bad attitude amongst staff here. There's an assumption that anyone who comes to them for help is an idiot, not worthy of their time or courtesy. It's sad, because there's potential here. I've worked in social services for a long time and I can't imagine treating anyone the way we were treated, here.
It takes a lot to ask for help- and we never needed it until this last year when my husband had a heart attack and we lost all our income. Things are better, now- but this agency treated us like criminals or beggars when we came to them for food. We wasted two days, time & gas, just to be grilled about why we pay so much rent, and then turned away. Apparently, with our income at the time, the case manager thought we should be paying $365 rent. We live in So Cal- WHERE can we live for $365? Again, there's the assumption that every setback is permanent and that clients are perpetually poor. Moving is the solution...cant you get disability, unemployment, why are you getting loans from family? Oh wait, you need food? Sorry, we can't help you. You need to find cheaper housing.
Our entire lives, we've supported non-profits and we both volunteer extensively. Family Services Association of Redlands wont make the cut, with us. This agency is constantly losing its funding, and it should.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Change the corporate climate. Change staff. Treat people better.
