Review for The Bag Project, Lawrenceville, NJ, USA
Anchor House, dedicated to serving runaway, homeless, abused, neglected and aging out young people through trauma-informed residential and community-based programs, greatly appreciates The Bag Project's innovative and insightful work. When I think of The Bag Project, the first word that comes to mind is "impact." I have personally witnessed the faces of young people in need when they receive one of The Bag Project's attractive duffle bags and realize that it and all the wonderful age- and gender-appropriate goodies inside (e.g., personal care items, a book, blanket, stuffed animal and more) are theirs to keep and treasure. The smiles are amazing, as is the tremendous sense of gratitude. So many of the youth Anchor House serves don't have any duffle bags such as The Bag Project donates. Many are used to carrying around their clothes and personal effects in big black garbage bags. Can you imagine what that must feel like? What message that sends to kids? The Bag Project demonstrates to vulnerable young people that there are people out there who really care about them. Through The Bag Project's generous participation with Anchor House, our residents are able to transport their belongings in a stigma-free way. The gift of the duffle also allows our youth to experience feeling valued and respected. Those gifts are priceless! Thank you, Anupa and The Bag Project!
