I have known this RESCUE and the People involved for 12 SOLID YEARS. This is THE BEST Rescue on the EAST COAST! I don't say best in the USA because I don't know any West Coast rescues. I adopted from the Rescue and they THOROUGHLY vetted me and checked on my donkey for years. They also helped me with My horses when things got tuff...They have repeatedly saved unwanted, abandoned, abused horses, donkeys, mules, etc and completely cared for them til they were WHOLE! THIS IS one caring bunch of loving people. The TRUE Essence of what a Non-Profit RESCUE IS! If I could give 12 stars (1 for each yr) I would.

I LOVE This Horse Rescue!! CVHR ... I have been acquainted with this non-profit for about 6 years and find them the most caring, the most knowledgeable, the most transparent & honest financially, and the most dedicated to each horse they save. The animals get complete check-up care upon entry from the Vet, the Dentist, the Farrier and the nutritionist. They are given all the time they need to be allowed to heal and are gently appraised as they begin to get better. The adoption application to be a new home for one of their horses, mules, donkeys, minis is thorough and they really check prospective homes OUT! They make the calls to references and visit. They keep up with their critters. They willingly take adoptees back when theres issues.. Cindy, Randy and the staff of CVHR LOVE what they do and it shows!! I adopted my Donkey "Sirbeside" from CVHR who is a beloved babysitter to foals that are alone... what a character & centurion he is.. I highly recommend this group (Central Virginia Horse Rescue) as one of the most an outstanding Horse rescues in the United States.

This wonderful Rescue has truly proven the test of time... Lisa caring ways ARE WAY beyond any average Non Profit Rescue. She cares about EVERY living creature. She never ceases to IMPRESS me and I am a hard case. HHER is billed as an equine rescue, but it is so much more.. She saves Rabbits and Goats and chickens and the smallest of things. Loving her wards, is her life. Day in and day out ...she tirelessly looks for GOOD homes to give her critters a second chance at a loving home and better life. This Rescue and Lisa...in one word: AMAZING!

There is are not enough words to tell the Peeps about the wonders of Cindy & Randy @ CVHR . They LIVE & LOVE & EAT & SLEEP Horse Rescue. Their transparent dedication is beyond description. Every horse in their care is special...every horse in their care gets treated to lovin' spa days, an individual diet, exercise, veterinary & farrier & dentist, and given EVERY chance for a second career or family. Each Rescued Horse is given the opportunity "to be a horse" and have the freedom to discover their snug haven. New owners are screened & scrutinized to insure the safety of the animal and in the event that things don't work out... CVHR takes them back. Cindy, if you meet her or know her, has a fantastic practical loving nature that is interwoven with humor. She can "tell you like it IS" and then make you laugh. She knows her stuff and works tirelessly to save Horses. I recommend this Nonprofit with every ounce of me.

Once Again...I sound like a broken recording but the longer I know this Rescue and it's People...the more impressed I am. Cindy and Randy have hearts the size of Mountains but their compassion is coupled with practical good sense. They reach out in many areas of the USA but easily Central Virginia Horse Rescue is the finest Equine Rescue in Virginia. Cindy also PATIENTLY answers 100's of questions each week on a full range of Equine subjects to help novice owners better care for their own horses. This Rescue is a bright shining star....in a gray paved equine world.

As a rule, I do NOT recommend Peeps. BUT~~I am rather fortunate to know Central Virginia Horse Rescue and it's Queen, Cindy Smith, in many capacities. I adopted a donkey from her, To Sir With Love, to help along an very sick yearling we had. The little Gray longeared fella has given me many special moments. He came to us from CVHR COMPLETE...everything had been attended to. His feet were trimmed, his shots were up to date, his Coggins was live and he was in GREAT health. Cindy represented him HONESTLY and Candidly...and isn't that refreshing in this world? I have also served shoulder to shoulder with her as an admin for the well-known CHW Weekly page and got to see her faithful written responses daily in action to save auction horses and campaign for them until ALL had homes. Many many times, she took home the LAST Horse Standing in number 10 pen to see it saved. Last, but not least, I know Cindy as a donor to Central VA Horse Rescue. She is SQUEEKY impeccably clean & transparent in all financial dealings and it is all but impossible to get her to do ANYTHING for herself. To spell it out: She wakes up, lives, breathes, eats and sleeps dreaming about saving horses. A steward to trust and support! You have mine!! ~~~Kate W.
