Review for Long Island Sled Hockey Inc. - For the Differently-abled Athlete, Lynbrook, NY, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Inspiration is the word that comes to mind when thinking of this amazing team of athletes. Watching them play this game makes you realize that, when it comes to sports, disabilities are left at the door. The comradery of the team is evident and the coaching staff becomes alive when their team takes the ice. The fact that they win big games is just a piece of it, but the smiles on their faces is the real win. Best nonprofit ever.

Most teams only care about winning. That's not the case with LISH. While the medals they always wind up taking home are great, the real reward is seeing the teammates on the ice enjoying something they never would, if it weren't for this organization. It's an exciting game, a pleasure to watch and an even bigger pleasure to hear about from my brother, who is on the team, and my dad, who is the president and proud coach. Every time I meet someone who is trying to find something for his or her family member of friend who is physically or mentally challenged I mention this wonderful organization and their eyes light up. The dedication of my dad, the board and the families who support their family members on the team is astounding and it's what makes this program stand out above all others.

This organization gives much opportunity to handicap athletes who may not otherwise have the chance to learn and grow in a fun yet competitive atmosphere. It is the only league I know of that asks you to leave it all on the ice and the only thing you should take off the ice is a smile, no matter the score. As long as these athletes have fun, they win. Job well done by the coaches, the board, and most of all, the team.
