JOIN partners with people experiencing homelessness and helps them rebuild a system of support to move forward on their journey of recovery. The staff do this through developing authentic relationships with the people they serve, their friends. The feeling of non-judgement, partnership, empathy, understanding, and support permeates the space at JOIN and spreads throughout its community. JOIN's approach is unique in Portland and their success is proof that peoples' lives can change when we create space for them to heal. It is the perfect vision of how I would like to see social services provided-- one where everyone is treated with dignity and respect for the simple fact that they are a human being.
