Review for Camp Fire, Inc. Willamette Council, Salem, OR, USA
As a former "Camp Fire Girl" (back in the days when the organization was only for girls), I know the impact that the Camp Fire organization had on my life, the socializing that was made available, the life lessons learned. As an adult, I'm privileged to serve on the board of directors for the Willamette Council, and volunteer my time to maintain the organization's high quality programs and community outreach. The Willamette Council serves a growing population of at-risk youth in the Willamette Valley in Oregon, keeping them in a structured setting, teaching them skills that support the lessons they learn in school as well as teaching about respect for others, and offering productive outlets for energy and enthsiasm for learning.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
As a middle school and high school student, I took advantage of the outdoor and craft programs offered in the individual "troop" setting, learning skills from the adult volunteers that I would not otherwise have had the opportunity to experience. I've met with current students who participate in the program, and heard their testimonials of the lessons learned and the friendships forged within the classes and programs.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
Easy to say, but difficult to carry out, I would love to see the programs widespread throughout the counties served by the Willamette Council, with programs and opportunities in every middle school, which represents the target at-risk after school population. This requires partnership with schools and other youth organizations which has become so difficult given the current budget restraints for all social service providers.
