Review for Wells Bring Hope, Los Angeles, CA, USA
According to the World Health Organization, "No other humanitarian intervention produces a more dramatic effect on lives than access to safe water and good sanitation."
Last year I visited Rwanda and saw, first hand, how difficult it is for people to get water when it's not piped into their houses. I wanted to help and Wells Bring Hope seemed like a great place. It's a new non-profit, only a few years old, but it's very well run. Wells Bring Hope is committed to drilling wells to bring safe water and good sanitation to rural villages in Niger, West Africa, one of the three poorest countries in the world. Our vision is to save lives with safe water.
As of September 2011, we’ve funded 65 wells. I like the fact that we work with World Vision, to match everything we raise, dollar for dollar. They also keep working with the village for 15+ years, helping to provide: continuing education on good sanitation and proper hygiene, micro-loans, drip irrigation, etc. Most importantly, all our wells are fully sustainable, villagers are shown how to maintain the well and where to get parts.
I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...
continuing to volunteer.
If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...
increase donations so we can drill more wells.
