Review for LifeChronicles, Santa Barbara, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Parkinson's is slowly taking my father's voice and physical abilities. This summer, while Daddy still had the cognitive and physical ability to speak and share stories, Life Chronicles filmed him and my mom. Without knowing it, my mom and dad shared their legacy. We (their children and grandchildren) were able to recall on camera important moments, and laugh and cry with them. Kate expertly guided us through the experience. My mom and dad are now reviewing their raw footage and collecting photos and music to add to the video. My mom tells me it is THE greatest gift that she and my dad can leave us. We all agree.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

Visiting my parents last winter (they live 3000 miles away) I could see how frail my parents had become and what a toll my dad's Parkinson's and the stress of 24/7 caregiving was taking on my parents. I knew I had to do Life Chronicles with them. I am so happy that their voice will live for generations to come.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Find a way to clone Kate so that more and more people who have ailing loved ones can share their legacy. I'd let every hospice and nursing home in the country know about Life Chronicles. I'd make sure religious organizations spread the word. And I would find a way to feature Kate's work on Oprah's network.

Review for Conejo Valley Senior Concerns, Thousand Oaks, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Eight years ago my husband and I “adopted” our elderly neighbors and acted as caregivers for the couple as well as financial, legal and medical powers of attorney. Confused, stressed and in need, we contacted Senior Concerns. With their guidance and support we navigated the complexities of caring for an aging loved one. I was so moved by the work of this organization, I joined the board and have been an active member for the past four years. This is a passionate organization tackling a huge problem - our senior population will double in the next 10 years. Whether it’s emergency support, referral assistance, adult day services, dementia evaluations, respite care or help with government programs, Senior Concerns case managers guide families through the maze of choices when caring for an aging loved one. Support does not stop with the senior, but extends to the family, and the family caregiver. Whether neighbor, friend or family, Senior Concerns is the one-stop solution for programs, support and referrals.

Expand their list of programs to include senior transportation services, home modification services and creating "villages" supporting seniors in their own neighborhood.

Role:  Board Member & As a board member I have run fundrasing programs, helped to build the Brain Ftiness Program, been a public speaker for the organization, and helped with marketing and public relations.
