Review for Outreach Inc, Indianapolis, IN, USA

Rating: 4 stars

My name is Sam Luppino and I would like to add my review and to let you know why my family believes so much in the work and mission of Outreach, Inc. (so much so that my wife is now a staff member of the ministry). Unfortunately when I was a teenager Outreach did not exist and I could have used its help in my own personal life. I experienced abuse and homelessness as a youth and know the pain and suffering, the anger and resentment, the lasting scars of abuse and abandonment. I also now know the grace of God, salvation of Christ, and love of a real family. It was through the support of caring people who were willing to invest time, and love in my life that helped me to find the right path and to turn my life from that of hopelessness to hope for a better future here on earth, and with Christ an everlasting, eternal life when my time here is done. I also know from personal volunteer participation that same thing is happening with the youth of Outreach. The staff provide services, programs, counseling, and trusted relationship to youth who are broken-hearted, aimless, depressed, jobless, without the proper life skills to "grow up well." They do everything they can to teach needed skills to help youth become self-sufficient, and to instill truth of God's word, and promise of salvation through Christ.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

I have seen youth involved in the GOAL (graduation, occupation, address, lifestyle) education program graduate from high school and be celebrated by the staff, volunteers and donors (and other supporters) at their annual graduation party honoring the accomplishments of homeless students. We even honored a college graduate this year who now has a job as a TV reporter in Texas! I have employeed young people in my own company who have become ready for the responsibility of a job, and so much more...

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

Pray that God provide the blessing of enough financial support to increase the staff to handle the huge increase of homeless teens and young adults that they are experiencing, and to provide a way for them to open a shelter or transitional housing facility to provide beds/homes for the youth who are trying to progress in spite of having no safe place to reside. They are doing what they do very well - providing solid and helpful core programs for these kids - they just need more hands and feet for the work

What specific problem, purpose, priority, or project prompted your gift?

Helping homeless youth to get away from street life, and to find hope through programs and services that assist them in being healthy mentally, physically, and spiritually - helping them to become the kinds of adults that I hire in my own company, and am proud to call friend.

Why did you make your donation at this time?

I believe in the mission to equip and empower homeless teens and young adults to exit street life.

What would you tell others about this organization?

Their effort with homeless youth is valuable and worthy of support...time, talent, and treasure. They are getting it done. These kids are learning life lessons that their parents should have but didn't or couldn't give. In the long run this helps our whole community. These kids don't become burdens on the welfare rolls, they make better life choices even moving away from violence, drugs, etc.

Role:  Donor & I served as a street outreach volunteer going out with staff to find youth in squats like abandoned buildings, under bridges at the river, in the malls, libraries, and streets of our city, and I served as a chaperone at their Drop-In Center where I had a.
