Review for Oak Lake Art Center, Valley Center, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

Oak Lake Art Center’s (OLAC) approach of using art as medicine and teaching the healing powers it can offer through hands on experiences is awesome. From gardening to painting to learning about the indigenous peoples, Ed and his dedicated staff are doing incredible work both at their site and in the communities that they reach out to. They give the opportunity for individuals that have had or are going through physical, emotional and mental trauma the ability to assist themselves in their own healing process by providing an outlet for creativity, knowledge and respect of the past, and optimism for growth in the future. OLAC is a tremendous non-profit organization that with your help can continue to reach those in need. I encourage you to check out all their great work by visiting their outstanding website (www.oaklakeartcenter.org) and signing up for their wonderful newsletter. I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the people that they have helped.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

reach out to more groups and organizations in need of their services.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

the hands on experience they provided.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

outstanding, extremely knowledgable and enthusiastic!

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

help make life better for those struggling to find something good in their own lives.

Ways to make it better...

we had more time to enjoy all the aspects of what they offer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

spreading their message and being able to provide more people the experience. The more that know about and understand what it is they are doing and how much of a positive impact in can have on a person's life, the more they will end up helping.

One thing I'd also say is that...

this is a tremendous organization that with additional expose and funding could reach and help more people that need it the most!

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2009

Role:  General Member of the Public & I spent the day with the local cubscouts troop 690 learning about the indigenous people, how they gardened and how they lived. We visited their garden and erected a tipi on top of their mountian.
