Review for Oak Lake Art Center, Valley Center, CA, USA

Rating: 5 stars

OLAC is run by long time friend and art mentor, ED White. Not only is Ed a nationally known artist and sculptor but he played Professional football for the San Diego Chargers and Minnesota Vikings for 18 years earning All-Pro status on both teams. With the help of a wonderful staff, Ed imparts his love of art and ties that to our roots in Mother Earth. OLAC is dedicated to kids of all ages and economic means. The Center is located West of San Diego, high in the mountains near Julian, Ca.. Overnight facilities are available in a beautiful campground stressing Native Indian lore and their love of Mother Nature and our ties to the Earth. I urge one and all to look up Oak Lake Art Center. They are doing a terific job and touching the minds and hearts of many kids who might never had the chance to explore their potential.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization in...

the newsletters. Cant honestly give first hand report until I actually go back and teach an art class myself.

If I had to make changes to this organization, I would...

beg Ed White to run it for me.

What I've enjoyed the most about my experience with this nonprofit is...

I have seen it grow from an inspired idea to a thriving reality.

The kinds of staff and volunteers that I met were...

school teachers, nationally acclaimed professional artists, carpenters, landscapers, retired professional athletes and some wonderful "common folk" that just wanted to help.

If this organization had 10 million bucks, it could...

fill the ranks of American artists for the next 10 generations.

Ways to make it better...

I could have stayed longer.

In my opinion, the biggest challenges facing this organization are...

the fact that the Center is nestled high in the mountains. As in any heavily forested area, the threat of fire is always paramount.

One thing I'd also say is that...

it is a pleasure and honor to be able to recommend the Oak Lake Art Center.

When was your last experience with this nonprofit?

2008

Role:  Donor & I took art lessons from Ed White in his on site art studio and saw the Center's campgrounds in their construction stages. I am a donor and will be going back annualy to volunteer in the Art Program.
