At the beginning of 1916 I began volunteering at the Center and LOVED it! Creating found object art workshops that refreshed the walls in the Art Gallery while showing participants that anyone could CREATE! Participants were given the option of keeping their work or making it available to sell. Due to circumstances I took a 'furlough' & am looking forward to return SOON!

For me art is FUN & therapeutic. I consider it a joy to share the creative experience with others.

I've visited The Women's Intercultural Center for numerous years, initially donating books and other items so I've had the opportunity to watch it evolve. As a found object artist who is tired of 'lugging' my work around to small markets, I decided at the end of 2015 that I would contact nonprofits from Las Cruces, NM down to El Paso, TX offering my art to be used in fundraisers. Nice idea until I realized the time, etc. in doing that! One day, out of the blue, I receive a phone call from Mary Carter. She told me how she remembered the art curating I had done some years back at a local utility company and 'might' I be interested in doing the same for The Center? WOULD I? YOU BET I would! Also that she recognized the need to expand the art programs which would also benefit the community.
I am SO looking forward to working with this dynamic person, curating, conducting art workshops and bringing more affordable art to the area. Art is a venue that lifts people up, that teaches life skills along with problem solving. It's an equalizer in the sense that anyone can create! on and on and on!
2016 WILL BE a great year for The Women's Intercultural Center!

Love, love, love! I started volunteering here back in October of 2015. I love it because the center offers so many great things to the community. From english classes to zumba, whatever you want to do to better your life this place is the one to go. Not to mention the staff I worked with were simply awesome! Beginning with Mary, she always brought out the best in me, always giving great advice when I needed.
