WeSpark has been a Godsend to me as a caregiver and now as a cancer survivor. It is a place of serenity-- the calm eye of the storm.
When the toll of taking care of my mom reached critical mass, a Kaiser social worker referred me to WeSpark. The biofeedback, counseling sessions, jewelry making, energy session, and grief support kept me going when I might have given up.
When my Kaiser radiologist coldly informed me of my diagnosis over the phone 1-20-11, and then hung up, in this time of shock, then fear, I again called WeSpark. I got the compassionate support I needed from WeSpark’s Bonnie Franklin, M.S. M.F. T. She even followed up a week later to see that I was okay. I have not been able to get there in recent months due to health concerns and distance. Yet, just knowing WeSpark is there has been a blessing.
Suggestions: Bring back Marilyn who taught biofeedback. Have someone post the times of groups or classes on-line.
Thank you, WeSpark.
The people that work here do so because they either have a story or, just want to help. You don't feel like it's their job to help you. They do because they care. My Wife has cancer. You can talk to them. The activities help allot too.
I wish I'd known about We Spark earlier in my cancer journey. However, I am so grateful that at least I knew about them when I did - better late than never. We Spark has been a life saver. I met other people going through a similar journey so I could relate to them and talk to them. I had never tried any personal growth classes before in my life - my life had always been school, college, work, take care of kids and hardly ever time for myself. At We Spark, I started taking classes like Yoga, Tai Chi etc. These classes helped me in my healing process a lot. The staff at We Spark was so very helpful and kind. I am v.v.v. grateful to them.
in march 2012, i was diagnosed with breast cancer. after many medical appointments and decisions, i had surgery in may. i knew i needed help with the emotions which followed but could not get to ucla on a regular basis for their program. then, wespark was recommended. i had my intake with bonnie who is wonderfully compassionate, and started going to support groups. the experience has been life changing. i have talked with others who have cancer and gone to a breast cancer networking group. some of the horror and fear of a cancer diagnosis are subsiding. i am connecting with other women in group, where we can discuss the details of our surgeries, treatment and emotions. valuable information about treatment and resources is available also. i look forward to going every week and am so greatful wespark exists.
I was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lyphoma in 2009. I was a mom of a 5 year son and a wife and teacher. My life fell apart. WeSpark helped me though the hardest time in my life. The free therapy sessions helped me feel less alone. Bonnie Franklin the therapist was amazing and caring. When I was scared to loose my hair, another woman took off her hat and showed me her almost bald head with newly hair growing back. She was so proud and that gave the courage to get through losing my hair and gave me hope that it would grow back. Raike and Yoga helped me too. I am Cancer Free today and was amazed that I was contacted by the WePal profram and today spoke with a young woman just diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma. I was able to share my story and share my hope.
My name is Julie and I am a Hodkins Lymphma Cancer Survivor, who is almost done with treatment! I am 37 years old and was diagnosed January 2009. I was referred to WeSPARK by my oncologist because I was looking for a support group to help me through my nighmare. I will never forget the first group session I went to. I still had a head full of hair and my doctor had told me that it would be falling out really soon. I was devestated. At the group a woman took off her hat and showed me an almost bald head. Her hair was growing back from her chemo. She talked about her journey and listening to her strength gave me the strength to shave my head when my hair started to fall out and I just couldn't take it. Other times at the group sessions, I would cry a lot and would share all my feelings (fear, anger, hope) and would feel understood. As I continue with my journey, I feel that I could now be strenth to other new members. Now, I'm the one who feels comfortable without much hair. I understand what it feels like to go through chemotherapy and to be in that dark tunnel of treatment. I also know know that I see the light at the end of the tunnel and was able to get to this place easier because of the WeSparK support group. I want to be hope and have a place to share that hope with others. Bonnie F. at WeSparks is the leader of the group I went to and she was amazing and I felt so lucky to find WeSpark. It's an amazing program.
Wonderful organization. Being diagnosed with Breast Cancer is hard in itself and so comforting to know that such a great organization does exist out there to give us the support and nurturing we so desperately need. The classes and the individual reiki and other relaxation really helped me through some rough moments during and after treatment. So very grateful that someone told me about htis group and that I was able to sign up along with my spouse and 5 year old daughter. We were all taken care of and warmly received. Thank you WeSpark for being a true angel for me and so many others!!
WeSpark made me feel good about myself again after 6 surgeries, chemo and radiation. Their classes are free and tremendously helpful. The workers are kind, compassionate and wonderful. Just sitting in WeSpark premises is so relaxing and made me want to continue to live. I recommend it for all cancer patients.
I was diagnosed with breast cancer at 30yrs old. I tried many support groups yet there were none that fit my needs. I found WeSpark and they made me feel very special. I fit in there. They provided me with the resources to recover from cancer in all aspects; mentally, physically, and emotionally. I could not be here today if it wasn't for them.
My Oncolcogist recommended We Spark and I do not know what I would have done without the We Spark center. From the great receptionist's, to the healer's, classes, post cancer support group and the new friends I have made, I do not know what I would have done!!!! Everyone made me feel sooo very welcome, luv the warm welcoming smile of Alexandria. The healing sessions are amazing and my MD is amazed how much better I have become with Lauren's yoga class....
My dear friend lost her life to Cancer at the end of 2011. Her son was five at the time and I began bringing him to the WeSPARK children's playgroup in 2012. It had been a wonderful experience for him as well as for his father who has gotten their support for his son after this great tragedy. I'm so very grateful for WeSPARK! Patricia Maertens
I am heading into my third year if breast cancer survivorship and WeSpark helped me cope during my initial treatment by providing support groups and activities (yoga, meditation, etc.) that were beneficial in getting me through my treatment.
When I was diagnosed with stage II breast cancer, I felt very alone and scared. A friend who had received help from the many services that WeSpark offered, told me where to go to get started. They offered so many programs to help with stress (Yoga, Guided Imagery, Tai Chi...to name a few) and the support groups run by wonderful Tara, were of great help during a difficult time. They even helped me get some hats and wigs to prepare for the hair loss during chemo. Having an organization like this, offering programs for free to clients who are struggling with cancer, is a wonderful thing! Thank you, WeSpark!
As a guest first, WeSpark saved me from falling into a black pit of terror and depression while I was making a decision wether or not to have a double mastectomy. Now that I am on the other side of my surgeries I am gratefull to all of the staff and donors that make it possible to walk through adversity with a good attitude, faith that everything is ok and a smile on my face.
WeSpark is a remarkable organization that was there for me when I needed it most. I had just been diagnosed with breast cancer and I was terrified out of my wits when I found out about them. They were welcoming, caring, informative and gave me both group and individual attention that I feel really made a difference in my fight. I am so thankful to this group and all that they have done and continue to do.
When I was diagnosed with breast cancer I was terrified and a friend put me in touch with WeSpark. They were wonderful and they really knew how to handle my situation. I attended several of their programs and group therapy sessions and I will be forever grateful to them for their caring and help. I can't say enough good things about this organization.
In 1993 I was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had no idea 13 years later I would had metastic breast cancer. I started coming to We Sparks in 2007 attending support groups, yoga, guided imagery. We Sparks for me is like my home away from home. Everyone connected to the organization treats you with warmth and respect. I am so grateful for the We Sparks Organization it keeps me going everyday!
My breast cancer had returned after 14 years, I found We Spark through a friend who lives in the area. I joined the support group for Ongoing treatment at We Spark and have found it to be extremelly helpful. All of the staff at We Spark are warm, compassionate, loving and caring. There are incredible resources to be found in the library and through the staff members. All of the services provided at We Spark are done in a professional and caring manner. I don't live in the area, so it is quite a drive for me, I wish the facility was closer.
I originally called them because my sister was diagnosed with lung cancer and I wanted to attend a caregivers meeting. Little did I know I would be calling 2 weeks later for myself. On Feb 11th, 2011 I was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Attending weSpark has been life changing. The unconditional love and support is priceless. Knowing I can attend programs without having to worry about how I am going to pay for them was the best gift out of this whole experience. I have met so many amazing people and am forever grateful. I have recommended them to many people diagnosed with cancer because its nice to feel understood and at home when you are going through such a life altering ordeal. Thank you weSpark family for all that you do!!
In 06 my dear father was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer. I had a very close relationship with him. He had helped me raise my son, thus my son was losing his father figure and I was losing the last of my family. My son joined the kids support group and I was in the grief group. They helped me transition my son, and we had invaluable support for the entire year. I could never thank weSpark enough.
WeSpark helped me so much through breast cancer almost 10 years ago. I learned so much and was givenn incredible support and kindness. It is a fantastic organization.
I was served by weSPARK after my diagnosis and surgery and during my chemotherapy. The healing peaceful atmosphere was so inviting. I always felt welcome and so much better as I left than when I arrived. I loved the yoga classes best, but I enjoyed many other activities. Thank you to weSPARK
