Mission: Established in 1983, The Ventura College Foundation is an organization dedicated to the support and enhancement of the student educational experience through fundraising activities that provide scholarships to students, grants to staff members, and funds for special projects. The Foundation achieves this mission by administering scholarships and the newly founded Promise program for new high school graduates.
Results: Annually the Foundation provides Ventura College with nearly $1,000,000 in scholarships and grants, and serves nearly 2,000 students. Over its history, the Foundation has raised more than $15 million in private support for Ventura College. Though Ventura College receives state funding, that funding falls far short of actually covering the costs incurred in providing quality educational opportunities for over 12,000 students. Through support from the Foundation's Board of Directors, community partnerships with businesses such as Limoneira company, Sage Publications, and individual and alumni donors, the Foundation meets its fundraising goals.

Programs: The Ventura College Foundation's core programs are: I.The Ventura College Promise An innovative program offering one year of free college for all recent Ventura County high school graduates, the Ventura College Promise Program was created to help remove the economic barriers associated with the path to a higher education. The VC Promise started in 2006 with 100 students and has grown to include more than 1,200 for the Fall 2010 semester. The Promise helps remove the perceived financial barrier of going to college and promotes direct, full-time, and continuous college enrollment --strategies proven to increase college going rates and improve student success. II. The Ventura College Foundation Scholarship program The scholarship program provides direct support to students by paying for enrollment fees, textbooks and lab fees, rent, utilities, childcare, transportation and all other necessary educational related expenses. During the 2010-2011 academic year, over one-third of scholarship recipients attended their first year at Ventura College for free, as participants in the VC Promise Program. III. Textbook Lending Library The Ventura College Library has two Textbook Lending Library Collections: the Reserve Textbook Bank, a non-circulating collection, and the Faith George Lending Library, a collection circulated to students for the semester. Both collections are invaluable resources to students who are unable to meet the high cost of college textbooks. On an annual basis, the Ventura College Foundation provides $25,000 to fund Textbook Lending Library resources. IV. Educational Enhancement Grants The Educational Enhancement Grant Program provides funds for Ventura College Faculty and Staff to improve and enrich classroom instruction, develop and/or augment student services or encourage creativity and exploration of new teaching methods. Available to full and part-time Ventura College employees, grants of up to $2,500 are awarded each year to deserving faculty and staff looking for innovative ways to enhance the educational experience of the students at Ventura College.
