Too many Poverty pimps and thieves inside our homeelss and housing systems who skim off money, steal clothes and donations intended for our people and they play games to let their friends skip in line on shelter bed and housing lists.

We need federal oversight into most all of our local homeless and housing systems because local agencies DO NOT and CAN NOT enforce the laws and standards we need to keep us all safe.

There are too many homeless people idle, on the streets and mixing around with drugs and liquor because we are being warehoused in hotel rooms with almost no activities and food stamps are too little to eat on so we have to beg for money for food and medicl stuff not covered by insurance.

If YOU attend or volunteer at places likre Turning Point Center you will come to the reality that homeless people are just like the rest of society, minus the money, the material goods, the large egos and the greed.

The majority of them just want a safe place and a huge percentage want livable wage and to get medical help to deal wtih their daily pains and sufferings.

There is no such thing (a noun) as 'homeless people' when it comes to understanding them and dealing with them. They are unique individuals and only a very small percentage are agressive, except for the mentaly ill who are not getting treatment...

The client I brought in for shelter was lost and surviving on her own for over six months, suffering with mental challenges. After finding the nearest relative to the woman, I was not allowed to speak with her, I was not given any indication to confirm whether she was still there or not. The client was not verbally given the message that her relatives had been found to reconnect them immediately. I need to read the policy for missing adults in Houston at shelters and with the Houston Police division. I found HPD would not make missing report on the found person. The shelter would not inform the " missing person" that her relatives had been located in Houston and not New Orleans and would not allow me to see her and inform the client of the good news.

The people there were great! They knew how to handle spesific situations. They keep you safe! TPC, under any circumstances, will not give anyone your information; even if they claim to be your lost relative. The food was good. They had AA meetings for those of us in that program 3 times a week. It was a warm and inviting atmosphere. Help is provided to anyone who needs it. I personally lived there for almost 6 months, and I think it was an awsome experience.

My mother was in the Tpc before she was in the program she abused rocksand our family was torn to pieces, a mess for so many years. We thought we'd never see her clean again or or usage would end in her death. I would highly recommend it to anyone who really wants help.. i visited her there after not seeing her 2 years. i am very proud of my mother. All im saying folks it really really helped her. As a result We now have our mother back. Christian practices.

I KNOW that there are a lot of PRE- CONCIEVED NOTIONS about the homeless but dont be fooled there are alot people who just are in this situation due to our economy being so messed up. different
I came as a volunteer with my church group and I hope that what we did was helpful But I think the most helpful thing was simply our being made aware of what Turning Point does for the homeless situation.

Came here tonight for the Friday AA meeting I have never lived at Turning Point but for the past 14 months i have been coming there every Friday to this meeting. I here every meeting about the wonderful things this place does and I know their reputation is without a doubt far above the other shelters here in Houston.

I met Isha the founder of Turning Point Center back in 2001 We own a local sandwich shop just two blocks away on Wirt Rd. It has been our pleasure to be associated with her and her company. We donate at least 2-3 times per month and have always felt blessed to do our part. We know the food we donate goes to a good cause.

The staff was professional and helpful I know with this bad economy there is a even greater need for facilities like this -Turning Point's property was clean and well groomed and it looked more like a retirement home then a shelter I was very impressed.

I've personally experienced the results of this organization and
the causes of people becoming homeless. The Turning Point services a group of people that the rest of the world has given up on but not Turning Point.

Turning Point Center is a safe & secure home to a group of people being on the streets. I like the fact that all the residents contribute to the maintance and daily upkeep of the Center this gives them a sense of well being and self worth.

We are from the AmeriCorps and are staying at Turning Point while we finish our 2011 NCCC project cleaning and restoring historic cemetaries around Houston. They have been oh so gracious in providing us a place to live, food and transportation. They are a great not profit company.

I just finished a meeting with Jeff Fleming on how we can do some improvements to the Turning Point facility for the elderly living there. Jeff was very informative in what the center does for the homeless and I was very impressed with the service that they are proiding for Houston's homeless. We look for a long term relationship in doing our part to make Turning Point Center a more secure facility.

TPC let us stay here for 2 months while we operate our AmeriCorp NCCC project. They not only give us a home to live in and a van to get to our work sites but they also feed us. They have made us feel at home and they even gave us a a huge selection of dvd's and I must say the movie selection was great

This is a great organization that does important work in Houston. I am especially fond of the fact that they just don't house homeless people they give them the tools to once again enter society and get off the streets for good their success rate is phenomanal s they have been helping people for over. Great work done for a great community. One of a kind program that helps for a more sustainable future.

I have had the opportunity to work with TPC as a volunteer partner for over 4 years and have personally witnessed their work in action. The passion and dedication of everyone involved in this organization is nothing short of inspirational. George Gomez and TPC are, thoughtful, caring and selfless about their cause. The elderly homeless who benefit from their work are the true evidence of the success.
