Turning Point Center is a great example of how we should be helping others in our community. Not only do they help those that come to their organization, they help other people in the Houston community as they drop off food for the homeless still living on the street.

For Barbara and Bobby, there was little choice. Without some help, she said, they wouldn't have made it. Turning Point Center has helped my clients in more ways then one. On top of the financial issue, there's a whole dignity issue, These people are in their so-called golden years, and they don't want to admit they're having a tough time getting food. Without Turning Point Barbara and Bobby would not have the services that The Turning Point has been providing.

The Turning Point Center will be 22 years old on March 26, 2011. During this period of time our membership is bordering on 10,000 people served. They have many programs in the communities addressing and responding to homeless elderly.

Nonprofit communicators have waaaaay too much to do.

One option is to pretend like your supporters don't want to get email from you, or don't use Facebook, or don't care if they ever get a thank-you letter or an explanation of the progress their money helped bring about.

Another option is to pray to the To-Do List Fairies to sprinkle some magic dust that cuts your to-do list in half overnight.

Or you could stop dreaming, and do what really works: Getting the help you need to get it all done!

When appropriate, family reunification is a critical element in ending the destitute and harsh realities of street life for homeless people where they have a safe and supportive place to live with. And now you can help by voluntering or donating to this great charity.

Connecting with the homeless on a respectful yet determined level without pressuring them into programs or service, simply offering and guiding and allowing them to take what they need, from a meal to wheelchair repair to a shower or counseling, the Turning Point staff and volunteers are making a difference in the lives of some of the neediest and least likely to help themselves people around. Once a month volunteers reach out into the heart of Houston and offer assistance to any who will accept. Volunteers are always needed!

I work for Harris County TX as a case worker and have took notice during my visits here on how the center runs. The people they serve here also contribute to the upkeep and the daily chores. I know it distills a sense of community and at the same time gives the individual self esteem.
The service they provide goes way beyond just shelter and food.

We have known of Turning Point and the level of its services for many years. The caseworkers at COMPASS view it as an excellent housing option for our homeless clients with disabilities. It has always been my impression that it is well run, that Mr. Lopez is very dedicated, and that the residents are happy to be there. On another note, my daughter's middle school does community service there from time to time, and she and the other students are also impressed. And it is not easy to impress a middle schooler!
