I greatly enjoy working to serve this organization. In my 3 years volunteering for The Center for Contemporary Dance, I have seen the company produce exceptional works of art, witnessed young people learning and growing through dance and been an active part of outreach efforts that brought quality arts education programs to at-risk youth in the public school setting. The leaders, staff and faculty are outstanding professionals and, more importantly, are incredible human beings who truly care about impacting the community through dance. We are fortunate to have The Center for Contemporary Dance in our community--they care about the cultural future of Central Florida and are doing remarkable things to sustain the future of dance in our area. Thank you!
The Center for Contemporary Dance (CCD) of Winter Park, FL offers a plethora of opportunities and exposure to children, youth and adults in the performing arts. CCD is a dance school of exceptional quality and high standards requiring only the best from each of its students. I became familiar with CCD a few years back when my granddaughter earned the opportunity to dance with the company as an apprentice. She first attended CCD to learn the Horton Technique in dance. Her experiences while taking that class prompted her desire to return again and again. She performed in "Sacred Slave Stories" where she not only gained an appreciation for history but where she learned how to tell a story through movement. I cannot applaud the Center for Contemporary enough. This is a non-profit that exceeds the expectations of many and one that provides a community service par excellence.
As a "dance grandmom" and a retired elementary school principal, I attended many of the performances that were held at Title I schools throughout Orange County, FL. Students at these schools rarely get the opportunity to learn of and to enjoy performing arts and especially through dance. Live performances of any kind are a first for most of them. The students were initially in awe and then totally engaged once the performance started. I realized then, that CCD offered a service to these students that they would remember for a life time.
Dance was suggested to us as a creative outlet for our children. We struggled for quite a while looking for the right fit and somewhere we could afford. We are really happy to have found CCD.
We really appreciate the staff and the way they interact and encourage the children. They have a great way of showing the children they are expected to behave and yet do it in a loving and kind manner. It is obvious that they want the children to learn and will take the extra time to explain and demonstrate when a child doesn't catch on right away. The staff's love of dance and for the children is evident in the way they teach and interact with the children.
CCD is helping our children gain confidence in themselves. The diversity of the staff and students has also been wonderful for our children.
This was a great program to our fifth grade students. They seemed to understand what slavery was all about and enjoyed the dance aspect of the lesson. The program held their attention and offered plenty of opportuity for questions and ideas to be shared. They especially enjoyed the idea that children could perform as well. For this, they were able to relate more to the program.
We look for greatness in big ways, but sometimes the true greatness happens on a smaller personal, community level. This greatness may not come with headlines and breaking news bulletins. This greatness does come with hard work, faith and the true desire to inspire positive change. That is what CCD is all about. Small, beautiful, steps full of grace that touch lives in big and small ways. Dario Moore and Craig Johnson touch souls and open hearts to the true possibility of good in the human condition because CCD I, your vision, commitment and CCD. To have thrived in this challenging social and economic climate is a testament to all that CCD is doing right.
It has been my good fortune to know about CCD and the great work that has been done by this organization over the last 10 year. I'm looking foward to the amazing possibilites that will be realized in the next 10 years.
I have been a supporter of The Center for Contemporary Dance for the last six years by volunteering at performances, assisting with costumes, teaching art classes at the Center, and sharing the Center’s mission and philosophy with others. The Center for Contemporary Dance has one of the most successful, innovative, and committed dance and community outreach arts programs in our region. The focus of all their programs is transformation, inclusiveness, and collaboration. Mr. Moore and Mr. Johnson actively seek out and encourage artists from all the arts to connect with a wide array of community organizations to develop the incredible potential the arts have to empower, unite and restore communities and individuals. The Center for Contemporary Dance believes that the arts can change people, the community, and the world. Dario Moore and Craig Johnson’s passion and commitment to this philosophy can be seen at every rehearsal, performance, or casual meeting. Creativity is the process of transformation and The Center for Contemporary Dance is a haven where people from all disciplines can join together to be part of that process -- and as Dario Moore has said, “have a profound and positive impact on the on the world in which they live.”
"Journal your frustrations in dance in order to confront and eradicate distractions." I heard Executive Director, Craig W. Johnson, say these words to a beautiful bunch of Pre-Professional Students at the Center for Contemporary Dance. It inspired me to begin my own journal and overtime I've realized how important journalling is to a person's growth and development. Artistic Director, Dario J. Moore, reiterates the importance of this concept during his classes, enforcing an intellectual stimulant that's necessary for a dancer's prosperity in the arts arena. Since the advent of my connection with CCD I have encountered caring, loving, spirited personalities that have influenced the way that I presently perceive the world. Looking back, I feel like I've grown 10 years from the place I started when I first joined the CCD family. My coming to CCD was not only the opportunity of a lifetime, but I believe ordained by God for the purpose He has put on my life - purpose that CCD will definitely help you find. There is no better place to grow than in a loving, grace-filled atmosphere like CCD. Words do not give justice to the untold sentiments I have for the Center for Contemporary Dance... thank you CCD.
I brought my 11 yr-old daughter to the Center for Contemporary Dance hoping to find professional technical training with a genuinely loving Dance atmosphere! Well, We found that and much much more!
My daughter came to them with a wounded spirit, but after sharing with Craig our previous struggles with dance studios he knew exactly the right path for her and went into action! Craig, Dario and all of the faculty truly cared enough to help her find her way again through dance!
We are SO......... Blessed to be a Part of something as Amazing as CCD! To be around like minded people is such an inspiration, words cannot describe the pleasure it brings me as a mom!
I want to Publicly Thank Craig, Dario, Jere' and Josan from the bottom of my heart, for believing in My daughter and taking the time to care about her fragile mind set when we first showed up at CCD, I am eternally grateful!
I am a believer that nothing happens by accident! I am always praying for God's Will to be done in our lives and to help guide me to where we need to be. I believe God directed us to CCD for her protection and guidance, and to help mold her dance future for His Will!
Unfortunately I moved,& will search for a dance studio with the excellence of The Center. The Center offers quality dance education with a variety of dance styles to explore. What a Team ! Dario's PASSION for dance and teach expression through dance, coupled by Craig's directing The Center's involvement in a number of dance companies, outreach in the community, even children in schools.
