Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Breast Cancer, Cancer, Counseling, Human Services, Mental Health

Mission: Support Connection''s primary mission is to provide emotional, social and educational support services to women, their families and friends affected by breast and ovarian cancer. The support provided enables women to help each other and empowers them to become their own healthcare advocates.

Target demographics: Women living with breast and ovarian cancer, as well as their families and friends.

Programs: Women with breast and ovarian cancer, or anyone needing information about these diseases, can come to our office or call us 5 days a week, 9 am - 5 pm NY time, and speak directly with a trained Peer Counselor, a cancer survivor who has traveled the journey already. Calls received after hours are returned the next business day. We have a toll-free number (800-532-4290) for information and support, making this service readily available to anyone nationwide.

Peer Counselors offer information about breast and ovarian cancer, ongoing emotional support, community resources and referrals, connections to other women with similar situations. There are no limits on our peer counseling services. This individualized, free support is available as often as you need it, for as long as you need it, regardless of where you are on your journey through diagnosis, treatment and recovery.

This survivor-to-survivor approach is central to our philosophy; it sets us apart and makes our services both effective and powerful. As one of our Peer Counselors said: "We have walked the walk. We have heard the words 'you have cancer,' felt the fear and anxiety, tried to find some sanity in it all and gone through the tests, the surgeries and the treatments. Just like the women who call, we have held the pieces of a cancer diagnosis together and continued raising our kids, working and maintaining households. We ourselves are women whose lives could not stop for cancer."

I've worked with Support Connection many times in the past to help them with different fundraising events as a volunteer. Not only is their work undeniably impactful, the women from Support Connection are some of the most compassionate people I've ever worked with from a non-profit. They are an organization I am proud to support and will continue to support.

The Support Connection is undoubtedly the most amazing organization supporting women with breast and ovarian cancers! Although the Support Connection is a small organization in number, the staff is overwhelming in their commitment to helping women both locally and nationally. When women are feeling vulnerable, scared and alone with a diagnosis of cancer, the peer counselors (survivors themselves) are there to support and listen. I never cease to be amazed by their energy, compassion and love.

Each staff member at Support Connection are special people who are passionate about what they do, and truly care about each individual that calls or enters their door. My sister received the best emotional support and TLC whenever she spoke/met with a counselor, and I had the honor of volunteering for their annual walk-a-thon.

A non-profit with commitment and integrity and individuals with honesty and compassion

As a breast cancer survivor, I was able to take advantage of Support Connection's free confidential services many years ago. Although I have remained cancer free, I continue to help support them by raising much need funds for their services. I continue to educate those most in need of these services and let them know how much they have helped me. Their services are top notch and exceptional!

I am a licensed massage therapist specializing in oncology massage and the management of lymphedema related to cancer treatment.
To honor the memory of a dear friend who died of ovarian cancer, I approached Support Connection five years ago to volunteer my services. Some of the people who received a free massage have become my clients; I participate in the annual Support Connection walk; and I attend information forums sponsored by Support Connection. I cherish my connection to this AMAZING little engine- of- a- nonprofit. With a tiny staff and the selfless help of many, many loyal supporters, Support Connection has provided counselling, support, information, love and community to thousands of women and their family members who are dealing with cancer diagnosis, treatment and survival. There are no sufficient words to describe the hope and goodness that Support Connection generates and spreads in ever widening circles.

I've been lucky, no one in my family has been a victim of breast or ovarian cancer but we all know people who have. Support Connection is a place to turn when you or a loved one gets the news need a shoulder to lean on, Where better to seek advice than from a place where people have walked in your shoes, know what it's like and are there to listen, share and offer support when you need it most. I walk for my friend Lenore and her sister. I walk so if my daughters ever need a place to turn, Support Connection will be there for them.

I've had the pleasure of working with this organization for many years now and have enjoyed getting to know the staff. Everyone has a connection to breast and/or ovarian cancer and this is what makes the staff so good at what they do - providing services and programs to women with breast and ovarian cancer as well as their families and friends.

Never have I met a more dedicated, caring group of workers. They treat me with the same respect, care and tenderness that they show each and every survivor. As a survivor myself, I always recommend Support Connection to the women who could more certainly benefit by utilizing their services.

I have been walking with and sending this amazing organization jewelry pieces for years! I truly adore what they're about and have accomplished. Together my mother and aunt have had both of the diseases Support Connection walks for and they keep going strong knowing they're definitely not alone in this battle. It's beyond comforting to know there's such a large group out there for support!

Support Connection holds a special place in my heart. 8 years ago my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer. She came across Support Connection while trying to find moral support and understanding from those that were going through the same thing she was. At Support Connection she was able to receive individual attention and support from trained staff who were also cancer survivors themselves. Getting advice and support form those who have gone through the same thing themselves makes a world of difference. Support Connection helpped me and my family get through and survive breast cancer altogether. I wanted to do something to show my appreciation so in return I volunteer with my mom and help organize events throughout the year. The staff and volunteers at Support Connection are wonderful people who just want to help and make a difference in our community. I believe stongly in Support Connection and the services they provide for breast and ovarian cancer awareness. Words cant express how dedicated the staff and volunteers are; they are like one big happy family!!
