I started serving with SSO from the very beginning and became a board member about a year later. It's difficult to find words to adequately describe how amazing it is to serve with this organization. When participating in an event serving the homeless, there is no distinction between the homeless, and those serving. There is an understanding that we are are all humankind and ALL valuable; there are friendships built, struggles shared, and prayers of encouragement for anyone in need. SSO and it's reputation of caring for others comes from it's background rooted in what Christ did on the cross. We have all made mistakes and wrong choices, and we serve out of grateful hearts for the grace Jesus has shown to all of us. The best way to fully understand SSO is by experiencing it for yourself.
Since I started this ministry in 2009, I have come to see amazing changes in many lives, especially my own. We have learned so much by helping the homeless of our city. Our volunteer team continues to grow as does our desire to reach as many of those in need as we can. We have plans to start another food share on the east side of Orlando and have a vision that includes addiction counseling and transitional housing.
