Our family was blessed to win a special needs scholarship. As you might imagine, having a disabled child in addition to 5 other children is very stressful. We had not been out on a date in years. The scholarship program afforded us the ability to go out for a few hours on the weekends. We had an “adventure” comparing barbecue restaurants to search for the best one. For a few hours every weekend our disabled son enjoyed the company of a qualified respite worker and a time out from us, while we enjoyed great food. The whole family functioned better with more relaxed parents. Special Needs Respite Inc and this program impacted us in such a positive way we wanted to share our great experience. Thank you!
I originally applied for a Special Needs Respite scholarship after someone posted a link to it on Facebook. We had just moved to town and didn’t know anyone yet and had no childcare options available other than therapy (which ended up being fewer hours than expected) and school (which hadn’t started yet). The scholarship allowed us to bridge the gap between therapy hours and work hours over the summer, as well as covering a teacher workday once school was in session. We also managed to get a couple of small breaks for ourselves in there. It’s been extremely helpful to us and we really appreciate it!!
"Special Need's Respite" program allowed me to get personalized in-home care for my special need's son so that I could work during "virtual" school days, and even allowed me to get a well-needed rest away to renew my spirit. The application process was very easy and the intake interview was simple and no-stress! Which is so rare in so many "support" programs available these days.
The support this organization provides for families of special needs children is awesome! The moms weekend getaway was fabulous...a chance to break away from the daily routines of the exhausting caregiving, time to relax and meet others who understand life's demands, and build new friendships! Just what the doctor ordered!
I entered a contest to win a mommy weekend getaway, and was completely surprised when I was selected. What made it that much more wonderful was that I didn't have to worry about finding and paying someone to keep my 9 yr old son while I was away. Special Needs Respite covered all the expenses, and I was able to sit back and relax for at least whole weekend. It allowed me time to meet and connect with some other moms who had similar situations, and I got to focus on me and recharging my battery. I'm truly thankful for this experience.
Thank you so much to all that have donated. My son has been turned down for so many programs that I am so blessed and beyond grateful for the scholarship so I can get out and run to the store or Dr. Apt. This has really helped so much. I wish there was more organizations willing to help our very special children. God bless y'all.
