Mission: SNAP''s mission is to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation and preventable diseases, especially in low-income areas.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 45,000 animals per yer

Geographic areas served: Houston and San Antonio

Programs: The first of its kind in the nation, this mobile clinic started in 1994 in Harris County, Texas, to take spay-neuter and rabies vaccination services directly into low-income neighborhoods, offering them free to indigent families on need-based public assistance programs. It helps about 5,000 cats and dogs annually. We have recently acquired a second mobile clinic for Houston that so far has only worked at the city shelter but which we want to use for special projects and backup for the original mobile clinic. The project has been funded to go into neighboring counties on special projects.

We have used SNAP to spay/neuter many strays around my office building to assist in keeping the cat population down in the area. The services they provide are invaluable to our Houston community!

SNAP is an amazing organization that is truly on the front lines of the animal overpopulation crisis. Because of SNAP hundreds and hundreds of thousands of animals have been saved from being euthanized in shelters. The only way to effectively get close to no-kill status is to have an effective spay and neuter strategy. As far as money goes, your money goes the farthest with SNAP than nearly any other organization. With each 60.00 donation, SNAP can spay or neuter an animal on the mobile clinic for free for someone who cannot otherwise provide this service for their animal. SNAP is just as appreciative for the donations of materials and small cash donations as larger sponsorships because every penny goes straight to the animals! A donation to SNAP either from an organization or private individual is one of the most effective ways to support the animal community. SNAP's wellness services are an excellent option for all individuals to keep the cost of pet ownership low while providing top level care for your pet with heartworm and flea preventative and regular vaccinations. I have always been incredibly thankful and happy with the services my animals have received either through the spay/neuter surgery center or the wellness clinic and cannot recommend SNAP enough.

SNAP is one of the most wonderful animal organizations in Houston! We have a terrible unwanted animal problem here and a high kill rate at our shelters. Helping people who love animals but can't afford to get them spayed or neutered is a great way to lessen this problem. We do extensive due dilgence on the organizations they support and they have our complete faith and confidence.

My Little Girl followed me when I was on a walk and I realized she was without a home and living in my neighborhood. I enlisted the help of the lady across the street to capture this 6 month old cat and then I took her to the Houston SNAP clinic for spaying. Having this affordable service available to us is what encouraged me to spay Little Girl with the intent of her going back outside. But I fell in love and now she rules the house as the princess she truly deserves to be in our home. Since then I have become a monthly contributor to SNAP and a ardent supporter by spreading the word. The SNAP mobile clinic is a godsend for our less fortunate areas of Houston. I can not fathom how many lives have been spared the misery of fending for themselves because of the work that SNAP does in our city.
