Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animal-Related, Animals, Veterinary Services

Mission: SNAP''s mission is to prevent the suffering and death of cats and dogs due to overpopulation and preventable diseases, especially in low-income areas.

Direct beneficiaries per year: 45,000 animals per yer

Geographic areas served: Houston and San Antonio

Programs: The first of its kind in the nation, this mobile clinic started in 1994 in Harris County, Texas, to take spay-neuter and rabies vaccination services directly into low-income neighborhoods, offering them free to indigent families on need-based public assistance programs. It helps about 5,000 cats and dogs annually. We have recently acquired a second mobile clinic for Houston that so far has only worked at the city shelter but which we want to use for special projects and backup for the original mobile clinic. The project has been funded to go into neighboring counties on special projects.

We brought our dog Rocket to get Neutered at Snap and it was a great experience for us and Rocket. SNAP has employees who love what they do and you can see it!

What I love most about SNAP in they will fix a feral kitty (in a live trap) with no appointment, complaints, or extra fees. I've taken many I've rescued this way to them and they are the only place I've found that will provide this very difficult service. And they are always willing to help. I took one non-feral kitty in a regular carrier, and the kitty busted out in the parking lot, which is right on the freeway! The staff came out and helped. We had to lay on the ground and surround the car he went under, and one of them had to reach into the engine and pull him out. It was a happy ending and I never used that carrier again! Yay SNAP!

A homeless mama cat had 4 kittens next door and the neighbors were not happy. We took a sick one in but feared future litters. Because of SNAP, we were able to get all 5 neutered/spayed at a reasonable cost. My neighbors pitched in with the cost and I took them in as we caught them. Where else can you get a cat 'fixed' for $20? SNAP was awesome to these little guys & they were ready when they said they would be. SNAP rocks!

I have 2 cats and 2 dogs that have been spayed and/or nuetered at SNAP San Antonio. We used he mobile clinics for the first 3 but the last one was at the wellness clinic. The staff at both have always been great. Our animals have been served well by them and the price is terrific.
