SLA has provided me with the environment to become sober, grow spiritually, and serve others who suffer with drug/alcohol addiction. The tools I have acquired here are useful in my every day endeavors to maintain my sobriety and be a productive member of society. Sober Living America has created an environment where I can be of service to God's children while also benefitting my recovery and spiritual growth. I owe the newness of life I am experiencing these days to SLA and love being a member of their team.

I started working with Sober Living America because I wanted to give back to the same community that supported me in such a difficult time in my life. The ways my life has changed since volunteering here are too numerous to list, but the organization itself is great. They provide awesome training, supportive leadership and most importantly, they have a clear goal and shared common purpose. The campus in Macon is especially great!

I came to SLA in June 2022. I was tired, broken and had just been released from prison for the 3rd time. I knew I had to do something different or I was going to die. SLA welcomed me in with open arms. At that time SLA was the only ones who believed in me. I came on staff as a Driver in July 2022, continued on through SLA's Guest Service, and Director's training. I became the Director of the Jonesboro campus in September 2022. This program has not been easy, but it's well worth it. SLA has given me all the tools to live a sober productive life. They have taught me keeping God first, staying open-minded and following suggestion will keep you going in a positive direction. I am now rebuilding relationships with my children and grandchild. I enjoy what I do. I never knew my story could make a difference. I truly believe that God has planted me amongst my people.

#SLA Spartanburg I have been here over 9 months and this has been a blessing in disguise. I came to SLA broke, busted, and disgusted and have been able to develop into a great leader and role model that my family always knew I could be. I was given suggestions and decided to take advantage of them and run with them and I have never looked back. I have been able to deal with life on life terms and very stressful situations and maintain my sobriety only for them to make me stronger. I enjoy waking up in the morning and thanking God for another glorious day. I have come a long way and it all started with a few simple acts of kindness that was shown to me through once strangers that really cared. Would recommend this life giving program to anyone in need of help because that is what SLA has people in place to do, help and give back what was so freely given to them.

Sober Living America has been an amazing experience for me. I first came to Sober Living America in 2018 to get help with my addiction. They made me feel welcomed and showed me how to stay clean and sober. I now work for Sober Living America and could not ask for a better way to give back to the program that saved my life. Working here I get to work with other addicts and alcoholics every day. Their vision is "No Money, no problem" and they stand by that. They took me in for nothing and helped me to find a better life than I could have ever imagined. Thank you SLA.

Prior to joining the program I was a homeless alcoholic and drug addict whom had no hope for their life. But this program gave me the tools I needed to live a better life. Sober Living America has been great for me. I first came to them when no one else would take me because I didn't have a lot of money to pay up front. I actually had no money at all and they told me no problem. I left Alabama to go to Florida in 2017, scared and alone. They made me feel like I am loved, something I had forgotten what it felt like. I relearned how to be the person I was before alcoholism and addiction. They helped me start my recovery and now when I have problems I don't instantly go back to my old BS. I can live my life without alcohol and cocaine now. I WANT to live my life now and the only reason I am still alive is because of them.

This organization helps a lot of recovering addicts and alcoholics. I have seen many lives change and the life come back into lost souls. They will give you all the tools to succeed but ultimately it is up to the recovering addict or alcoholic to do the work and really want something different in life. It is the only organization I know of that you can come into with no money being that most addicts don't have any and their family are usually done with them if they have any family at all. It has definitely saved and changed my life, as well as so many others. They help teach you to be independent and enjoy life sober. I honestly doubt I would still be alive today if it were not for God leading me to this organization. I was at the end of my rope hopeless and broke, thinking rehab was only for the rich. They made it a possibility and I am forever grateful. Choosing to be a part of this organization has allowed me to use all my mistakes in life for something good. It allows me to give hope and love to those who walk through the door thinking it won't work for them, and their life is over, because I was once them myself.

When I initially decided to contact SLA, I had about 8 months of sobriety under my belt and it was just that, sobriety or time. I knew that it was just a matter of time before I decided to take that one drink or pop that one Xanax bar to begin that vicious cycle of addiction back in to motion. Since coming here, I now know the difference between being sober and being in recovery. SLA is two-steps ahead of the competition when it comes to equipping their residents with the necessary tools to combat against this disease. Sober Living America has brought out the best in me!! No money, no problem is their vision, and they have definitely achieved their goal by creating irresistible facilities and irresistible programs. If you are needing treatment from Drug & Alcohol addiction at a reasonable cost, Sober Living of America is the place to be. Unlike other drug treatment programs, SLA enables you to get exceptional recovery at your fingertips that you will use for a lifetime while assisting you in getting gainful employment. SLA definitely has all the guardrails in place to help guide you through and through. SLA gives you the ability to still feel like you are part of society, while still addressing all those issues that have kept you shackled to addiction for most of your life. They have changed my life forever by helping me find a new way to live, free from Drugs & Alcohol, and they can do the same for you!!

January 14, 2021 God had a plan for me and although I was not sure of that plan, my faith said yes. It was also that day when I returned to Sober Living America to learn how to live one day at a time free from drugs and alcohol. Since that day I have had the chance to grow with Sober Living America in many ways. What started off as a journey to be a guest has turned out to be a journey of a servant heart. Sober Living America has provided me with the opportunity to help others in a manner that I would not have said was going to happen. Since that date in 2021, I have been the Program Director over two cities, I have found peace and joy within myself, I have grown to love this AMAZING family, I have completed the twelve steps with the help of a great Sponsor and support of Sober Living America. Above all I have found the most AMAZING God that loves me for me. I am connected through Service work in the community and through Mount Pleasant Christian Church/Fairfax Christian Church. The structure and discipline that is provided through Sober Living America has saved my life.

6 months ago I was walking down the road with the clothes on my back, no food, no hope, and no direction. In life. I made a decision that enough was enough. I realized how bad I needed help once I realized that I could not change my life on my own. I needed help. I admitted I was powerless over my addiction and that my life was completely unmanageable. I now believe that a power greater then myself is restoring my sanity. I made a decision to turn my will and my life over to the care of God! These 3 steps have absolutely saved my life. I cannot even attempt to put into words how truly grateful I am for this program! I give all the thanks to God and SLA for giving me an environment so that I could sit still and take the time to focus on myself. I will continue to focus on myself while helping others connect to the same path that saved my life. There is nothing in life worth changing my sobriety date. Starting my recovery changed my life was the second best decision. Coming Sober Living of America was the first best decision I made for myself. SLA provided the love, tolerance, and leadership I needed to wrap my head around God's provision for me. Despite being gifted with people skills and decent intelligence, I was not able to build an independent life for myself. Not only did SLA show me how to simplify life and use these talents more effectively, they polished the talents and gave me an opportunity to do the same for others. I am thankful to have met so many people that believe in the new comer's ability to persevere and achieve. There so much more that can be said about this company and its transitional program, but to put it simply; AA may have turned my life around but SLA provided the vehicle for me to take recovery seriously.

Not only has this Organization brought me to the AA 12 Steps, but it has brought me closer to my Higher Power God. The effective interaction between guests, the brotherhood and fellowship that resonates from the community is what “bonds” guests and make them want to “stick and stay”. It is with Discipline and consistency that people are working towards achieving their goals, and making contact again with loved ones. All the while SLA volunteers are there to assist, lead and guide all guests. SLA is the best way of recovery with having an open mind and support. SLA.

I'm beginning to get people and things back but most of all I am learning to love myself and listen to God. Thanks to SLA I am still alive and would highly recommend anyone that is struggling with addiction or wants help to check them out...

When I arrived at SLA Spartanburg, I was lost, bewildered and powerless. When I arrived I was met at Greyhound by the Program Director and the driver, and was made to comfortable immediately. When my interview/intake was conducted I was put at ease and explained how SLA worked. It left no doubts in my mind what was required. I was taken to my apartment and introduced to the house senior, who went through the SLA Guidelines with me and explained exactly what was required, and what I could/could not do.
My fellow house guests made me feel at home immediately and I realized that God works in mysterious ways. He found me a Home.
Since arriving at SLA in April 2020 my life has undergone a fantastic transformation. I Adopted the SLA Mission Statement as my own adventure, and I grasped the 12 Step program and my relationship with God as my ALL. Throughout my program I have been supported fantastically by SLA staff and Directors, and I am now thank-full for the people that has referred me to SLA. It is a program worth following, and it has the interest of each guest at heart.
I have joined SLA Staff and I can thank my Higher Power God for giving me the opportunity of being part of such a fantastic, supporting environment.
We have the interest of all our Guest at heart and support them in this Brotherhood and Fellowship.
This is a "HOME FROM HOME" where learn to make amends and to rebuild the bridges we have burnt.

I am in sla Charlotte 2. The staff is very attentive to our needs. We make meetings every night. and It changed my life. I have routine. I work honestly today. Basic life essentials and necessities are here. I believe that the place wouldn't run smoothly if it didnt have the staff they have. The drivers get everyone to and from work on time. We all communicate. and we all are recovering from different walks of life. I wish I could take this place with me when I leave here. Because it has menon track. This is thee longest streak I have been doing well without thinking about my addiction.

Spartanburg SC was the Sober Living America campus I attended. First they took me in off the streets with nothing to my name then this program saved my life by teaching me how to live again while I was recovering from my addiction. They tought me morals and structure which I needed to survive in the real world. They drove me to work, A.A meetings and honestly anything I asked that was reasonable. I owe my life to them and the brotherhood. They made me feel loved again between the staff and other guests, which helped me love myself again. I found my purpose in life while there striving to have what other's there already found. I followed the lead of the trainers which would stop in and bless us with there story. I have a relationship with God now and a purpose to live. I'm still in the program and volunteer to work on staff as work development, so I can give back what was giving to me. I'm so grateful for Sober Living America!!!

This program is run like a 3 ring circus. Most of the time they have someone who has less than a year sober, sometimes less than 6 months sober working as a director for an entire campus. They have zero issues taking your money but giving you back what they owe you is like pulling teeth. This company is a complete scam. Do not waste your time or money. They also create fake email accounts and then make reviews so they look better when searched on Google.

But, I have now been in SlA for almost a year and have learned a new way to live. I have been to other programs and none of them were able to do the things for me that sober living america done for me in a very short time. The staff members genuinely care about your quality of life, which is something that i had never once found before in other treatment programs. I would highly recommend this place to anyone seeking help with addiction. The quality of the facilities, the vehicles they use to transport you are astounding as well for what this place is. To say I came to Sober Living America with no clue would be an understatement! I came to Nashville in July 2016 from a 28 day program. I knew I wanted to change but did not know how, or if it was humanly possible. When I arrived Danielle and Mikel made me feel very welcomed. My Mother and Step Dad braught me in. We all sat in the office and they both answered my family's questions and concerns. Since then not only have I completed the program but I have been given the opportunity to help others. It has broadend my perspective not only in life, but about God, myself, and my relationship with others. I am forever grateful for SLA and the things I have learned here will go with me in every area of my life! It is an easy program if you're willing to put in the effort required to stay clean. I floundered for a little while trying to figure out this was the program for me. I stayed, went to my meetings as required by SLA, took the suggestions, and started working my steps. Once I finally did that, my entire life changed for the better and all the promises I heard about in the meeting starting coming true for me. I owe my sobreity and life to this simple program. I was a lost soul with no value and no reason to live... At least that is what I told myself. After spending over five years fighting overseas and receiving numerous wounds from these battles, I quickly became addicted to Opioids. Upon returning home I was met with a nasty divorce after 18 years of marriage. My life was over. No family, no friends, major addiction, NO HOPE!!. After numerous suicide attempts and many tear filled days, I turned to prayer. Just a few days later I was sent a message from a program telling me there is an answer to my troubles. I was in serious doubt concerning this but decided to look into it. The lady on the phone gave me a great pitch and an address. After a twenty mile walk and then another hour long ride, I arrived at SLA, Marietta. I was met with open arms by people who seemed to be truly concerned for me. They assured me that I didn't have to live that old life anymore and there was hope. Skeptical, I decided to give it a go. I was placed into a community of people in recovery who suffered the same problems as myself. I began to talk to everyone in the community and going to meetings. S.L.A. helped me find work and offered up transport to and from. The staff here became a major lifeline to me, always greeting me with a kind word and a positive attitude. I spent a long, long time, completely broken and lost. I am proud to report to anyone who might read this, that I am 11 months Clean and Sober. Not only am I still at S.L.A., I am proceeding to become a staff member of the very program which is responsible for giving me hope and saving my life in every way. At S.L.A, I learned that all is not lost, and with a little effort and some honest work, happiness, serenity, and sobriety is possible. My very life belongs to S.L.A. and all it stands for. Thank you S.L.A. Keep fighting "The Good Fight".

My name is kayla, im 23, 10 year trashcan junkie. I was addicted to anything i could put in a syringe and inject into my veins. Im at the Greenville SC location & it has completely changed my entire life. My experience with SLA has been amazing so far. I couldn't ask for a better community. I came here 3 weeks after i got out of prison in NC. Within 3 weeks of going home i had completely ruined my life again and returned to the streets. SLA was here for me when my family and friends were completely done with me. After almost 2 months of being here i thought i had it all figured out and decided i was gonna go back home and into an oxford house. 4 days after returning to my home town i overdosed on herion. I called my director at SLA while i was in the back of the ambulance and asked to return back to Greenville. Without hesitation i was accepted back immediately. I came back and started over again. I had a job within a few days of being back. I was assisted with getting food stamps, getting to all my meetings, work, & any other necessities. I've been to numerous rehabs and treatment facilities. Not including all the times ive been to jail and prison. When i actually started working the program we was presented with a new director which i wasn't excited about in the least little bit. Christy came and introduced Hunter Ledduke who decided to make me guest services. I couldn't be happier with this job. I was a regular resident for a time period which really helped when i jumped into this position. Hunter does not consider any of the people that work here just workers. We are all a team and treated as equals. We make all decisions together and support one another 100%. SLA Greenville is my family. I love this place. Its gave me an amazing opportunity for work and to help people just like me. Without this place and these people i would not be clean today. They took me in off the streets and helped me become the woman i am today. This is my home now and i hope to continue my journey with SLA for a very long time. Out of the 10 to 15 other rehab and treatment centers I've been to, this recovery program has definitely helped me more then any other. We do recover. #TeamGreenville

Greenville SLA is the best Sober Living program I have ever known to work and live. I have a purpose though this program and my ability to help others with addiction. From the first day I walked in the doors of Sober Living America I experienced a love and compassion i have never known before. I was immediately plugged into recovery and the twelve steps. They helped me get a job and learn independence. They taught me how to live not just exist without the use of any mind/mood altering substances. I once thought of condition as hopeless. I found that wasn't the case.I found myself in this program. I am currently in Sober Living America Greenville location. I went from a hopeless , homeless addict to to someone i can be proud of. After my mom kicked me out and told me I was pretty much worthless, I found myself at Charlotte SLA. I have been to so many places before but I have never been treated with love like I have here. Besides the fact that the apartments and vans are clean and the staff rock, they really mean they love us until we love ourselves. Cassy has loved on me since the moment I got here and really treated me like I'm at home. Recently, I got 30 days sober and Cassy and Steve celebrated that with my community in our community meeting. Cassy fed me for a week when I first got here and then went out and found places for us to get food and helped us get hooked up with food stamps.I came in with no clothes.

Cassy helped me get clothes and shoes for work. She went out and advocated at church for us and when we go to church now they sit us together and make us feel so at home. One of the ladies at the front desk last Sunday came and hugged all of us, she said that she had heard how amazing we are and how much love Cassy has for us when she talks about us to them. It made me cry to think that someone cares about me that much,It's been a really long time since anyone's been happy to see me. I got saved Sunday, SLA really did help me find myself and my God.

Most of us here came in with nothing and no one and now we have this huge family who love and fellowship together. They care about us here, like really care. It's not some professional telling me what i ought do, it's Cassy and Steve doing the deal and showing us how to do this recovery thing. They are also pretty hilarious and so positive. I can't speak for any other community but I can say here in Charlotte we are so thankful for all you do for us. Thank you for giving me a chance and having me be apart of this thing, by far the best thing that's ever happened to me.

I have been in multiple treatment centers in the years that I have been using. Although it is a struggle sometimes to live with other addicts, especially the ones who are here for the wrong reason, it has been a eye opening experience for me. SLA has been by far the best facility because I have learned so much about my self and my addiction to learn how to stay sober. At times I have struggled but it has helped me learn and grow in my recovery. I am so grateful for the staff and SLA for being so forgiving, patient and tolerant of me while I have been here. I know that I have not been the easiest person to deal with. They have always remained positive and understanding even when my own family has not. Thanks SLA

I am a graduate of Sober Living America. I was able to regain my life and family back by being at this facility. They not only taught me the tools to stay clean and sober but taught me how to live my life with out having drugs or alcohol in my system to cope. I met life long friends there and became apart of a family. Thanks for everything SLA. I am a success story!!! :)

Sober Living America in Tampa has completely changed my life! I have been to a few rehabs before but only to satisfy a judge or family member. Since being here, for the first time in my life I have learned the twelve steps and use them in my daily life. This community has welcomed me from the moment I got out of my mother's car. I'm grateful for EVERYTHING this program is doing for me and people like me. I haven't been sober in 10 years, and this feels AMAZING!!!! Due to my background NO ONE WOULD HIRE ME OR GIVE ME A CHANCE AT ALL. I am Computer Science Engineer with a Bachelors and people still treated me like I wasn't capable of doing anything because of my felonies. Since being here Christy lifted me back up and helped me regain my self confidence. She believed in me when no one else did. I have been given the opportunity to go through training here in order to become a member of staff, and I absolutely love the work I am able to do here to help others that are still on the streets struggling. I can now wake up every morning smiling, sober, and motivated. Thank you Jesus!!!! Thank you Sober Living America!!!!

To whom it may concern,
Recently my life did a 180 after relapsing in January, I thought I hit the bottom floor of my life spending almost 13 years here in a Florida prison. Not so, after losing both my son and his mother in the worst drinking binge of my life along with totaling my car and spending all my money I went into a very dark place and could not stop drinking.
I ended up in a detox center in Savannah,Ga. and was directed to Sober Living of America in Tampa,Fl. Change or course isn't always comfortable and I've experienced a LOT of change in my life but
when I walked into SLA of Tampa I was greeted by Nicki M. and instantly I felt like I WAS NO LONGER ALONE.
Since being here my life has changed dramatically and I have finally found PEACE. The staff and management truly CARE!!! They've been there through their own experience and they share that experience, strength, and hope on a daily basis. Gratitude is my attitude today and I'm moving forward ONE DAY AT A TIME!!!!
Thank you S.L.A.

I drink for over 36 years. I was not able to get sober. I was in and out of all kinds of places and none of them would do me no good. I came in the doors of Sober Living America and I still try doing things my way and that did not help me at all. I was told one day if I would just trying to do things my way and just started working on recovery things would get better. I dug a big hole for my self and I could not get out. I had not place to go. I leave on the street and had no money. I was told it would not be easy. They said I would have to do a lot of work. And they said that I would have to go to work to pay my way. It was hard but I am so glad that I had to do the work because it made it a lot better for me. People say that it not for them but I am so glad that I had to do it because all of the great things I have in my life today because of S.L.A. You have to work for your recovery. Thank you all for all the hard love that you gave me. You guys what save my life. I put myself there and no one gave me a thing. I am so glad for that. You have to do the foot work and God will do the rest.

I came to work with Sober Living America after doing contract video work with Jim and Cassy in 2013. From the very first time I met with them at their Atlanta location, I have been greatly impacted by the amazing work they are doing in the addiction community. I have heard from countless members in the community that they helped save their lives- by providing them with a second chance at getting their life back on track. This is an organization truly focused on getting individuals sober- not a spa or resort for people to go to say they are in recovery. It is so rare to find a place that will take individuals right away, regardless of their financial situations- which is exactly the principle SLA was founded on. Truly, this is an organization that is focused on changing lives and doing all they can for their community.

Sober Living America is a sober living community that allows men and women that struggle with alcohol and/or drug addiction to live in an environment that promotes sobriety, stability and responsibility. I needed a "safe" place that had a zero tolerance for alcohol and/or drug use. I needed to be in a place that would require more accountability for me that just going straight back home would. I wanted to become employable again and learn to be responsible with the money I earned. The time I have spent at Sober Living America has allowed all this and much more to happen for me. I have become am employable person, my self esteem is much improved and I have found happiness without drugs and/alcohol. The love of the other residents here, held me over until I could love myself, which was a process that, I believe, has been possible thru working the twelve steps of A.A. I know this is an ongoing journey that will continue for the rest of my life and that with God's help and the fellowship I can don this one day at a time.

I chose Sober Living America for long term recovery because my initial phone call to seek help was nothing but helpful. Amanda, the intake coordinator, immediately grabbed my attention as she explained strength and hope to me through this program. I was sold! When I arrived, I was a mess. Monty and April, two staff members, were unbelievably nice to me and went out of their way to help, and at that time I had no idea that they were staff members. I have been here for 2 months now, and am in the middle of working the steps, having daily engagements with my sponsor, and have been reconnected with my High Power. I am forever grateful for a organization like this that will take anyone, even without a job/money/food/clothes, and breathe life into this killer disease.

Came to Sober Living beat down and ashamed. Was greeted by the community with open arms. Worked the 12 steps and got plugged in with the fellowship. Have had a total spiritual awakening and couldn't be happy with the way my new life in sobriety has turned out.

I had spent over 15 years of my life drinking beer morning, noon and night, and had finally lost everything over a DUI. When no one else would consider helping me without insurance, Sober Living welcomed me in with open arms and gave me the tools to start living a sober lifestyle. I call it organized freedom community living.
You are given the opportunity to take your life seriously and beat addiction once and for all. Working and paying bills is a part of real life, having to work some humbling jobs at times pays for your program fees and also allows the next person to come in without a dime to their name. Once you have settled in, their Career Development program will work with you and your skills and help place you in a rewarding job.
I can't thank this community enough for all they have done for me and the countless people I have seen come through the doors!

Hi - I'm Jim deVarennes - President & Founder of Sober Living America. Since this is a review, I’ll try to be as objective and unbiased as I can, but I have to admit, I feel absolutely blessed & humbled to be part of working with a great group of caring volunteers who serve families in distress in our communities.
Okay – some good stuff about Sober Living America.
The Good:
Our leadership has been doing this since 1994. I guess what that means is we made a bunch of mistakes and prayerfully hope that we have learned from those mistakes. We have also tested many systems for years, and we really do know how to help people find recovery and rebuild their families.
I love the Vision of Sober Living America……
Vision: No Money – No Problem.
For those interested, In 1993 I witnessed a young man enter a sober living facility looking for help. He had his wife & 5 year old girl. I had a 5 year old girl at the time. They told him that he would have to have money, and that it would take 3 weeks before they could help. His head dropped into his hands, his wife hugged him and cried, and the little girl ran up and asked, “Why are you crying mommy”. That was it for me. I had already seen hundreds turned away, but when I saw the impact on the family, my life was changed. God puts things on your heart sometimes, and I believe I was called to serve. Heck, most of us have been affected by a loved one or friend that has suffered. We all know someone.

I Love the Daily Classes at Sober Living.
We have a 7:00 am spiritual, 8:30 Big Book, 12:00 Outside AA/NA meeting, 2:00 DVD with Andy Stanley, and an 8:00 outside AA/NA meeting. It’s effective.

I Love our Community Partners
These are business leaders who give our residents another chance for a career and support our organization.

I Love the Volunteers
This group works to provide housing, utilities, food, recovery services, transportation, and work development – regardless of people’s financial condition. Gotta love that! They are amazing! Visit them at www.soberlivingamerica.org.

I could keep saying good things and talk about No Waiting List, but it would start to sound like a commercial not a a review.

The Bad:

Our facilities are tired and need improving. It’s happening, but I seem to want everything yesterday.

Our programs can always be more engaging. We are working on that – one day at a time.

All of us Volunteers seemed to forget sometimes (myself included), that God is in charge, that there is a bit of good in the worst of us, a bit of bad in the best of us, but we are all children of God and we have a right to be here. (That’s from the AA Big Book – Dr. Paul O – great man).

Come see us – checks us out for yourself. We belong to our community, always pray that we serve families in need with love and compassion. Jim
