I was the manager at the doggy day care which also serves as the emergency intake room for any dogs that Red Paw rescues. Working there was my first exposure to what this wonderful organization does. Getting so see these precious pups come in, usually smelling of smoke, nervous, and confused, then providing them the love and care they need (baths, affection, reassurance), and finally witnessing the reunion with their families, really gave me an insider's look at all the work Red Paw does, and all the lives they help save. They provide a service that is not offered anywhere else in the country, but which is so greatly needed. It is truly an honor to be able to help this organization, the families affected by disaster, and all the pets involved.
I have worked with Red Paw on at least thirty serious (2n2) fire scenes, and each time I observed professional, caring, expedient Red Paw staff (most often the founder Jen herself!!!) doing whatever had to be done to ensure that displaced animals are given proper care, for free, very quickly, and with an incredibly high success rate. Red Paw is filled with professional civil servants who dedicate their time and energy to animal altruism, and they truly deserve recognition. Extremely proud to support them in any way I can.
As a firefighter in Philly and a pet owner, I really appreciate this organization. Pets are part of the family too. I'm proud of all that Red Paw has done. Keep up the good work, Jen! Here one of their saves from a fire we had.
This great organization helped make life a lot better for these two loyal family members. Rescued by Philadelphia Firefighters in 2013, fostered by Red Paw volunteers for two months and then adopted one of the Philadelphia Firefighters that rescued them.
With their roots in the county animal response team training, this group does so many incredible things for pets in the Philadelpia region and the people who love them. from getting them safely away from a fire or other emergency scene to finding them a foster home when their's is destroyed, this group is invaluable to our comminity.
I have watched this organization grow from inception. I am truly amazed at the dedication and compassion of Jen Leary and all the volunteers of Red Paw. They go above and beyond to rescue, rehabilitate, spay/neuter and reunite, so many owners and their beloved furry family members. It is just unbelievable what they have accomplished and continue relentlessly to do! Truly Heroic!!!
I am a Red Cross Disaster Mental Health Services Volunteer and I couldn't be prouder to know Jen Leary, one of the co-founders of Red Paw. I first met Jen before she started Red Paw - when she was a disaster response volunteer with the Red Cross and also served in Haiti after the earthquake there. She has spoken to my social work graduate students a number of times now - first to share her experiences in Haiti and then to share information about Red Paw. She is amazing. Red Paw is amazing. I have been at disaster sites when it is all I can do to keep people from running back into a burning building after their pet. I have seen, first hand, how people will not leave a dangerous, disaster site because they cannot find their pet. I have held people in my arms after the death of a pet from a disaster. Pets are family members too! Jen and her sister and her partner and countless selfless volunteers with Red Paw make a difference everyday! They are angels on earth.
I am a Red Cross/Emergency Services volunteer. I have worked with Red Paw numerous times. They are selfless, dedicated, volunteers. They have come to scenes at all times, day or night. They assist families at one of the worse days of their lives, and always bring comfort, caring, and understanding,to any situation. They will help any type of pet get the care and sheltering needed, and never charge a dime. They will also return to a scene day after day,til they can get any pet, that is too scared to come out, after a fire or disaster.
Red Paw is organized, agile and quick to mobilize and help. They are highly effective and making a measurable difference locally and regionally. GO RP!
As a volunteer with City Kitties, a neighborhood cat rescue, I saw what happened when fires and other small-scale disasters left people and their pets without a safe place to stay: cats left in burned-out buildings for weeks; dogs left at shelters because their owners couldn't find pet-friendly temporary housing. Red Paw Emergency Relief Team fills a unique and critical niche in the animal rescue and sheltering community. Countless pets and their people rely on Red Paw's dedicated volunteers and 24/7 service. Red Paw is simply amazing!
Although there are many well respected animal rescue groups that provide crucially needed services, Red Paw’s uniqueness rests on its ability to provide safe haven for displaced pets during the uncertain period between chaotic emergency scene and the return to normalcy. Time and time again I have witnessed the devastation created by fire and the ensuing separation of the beloved family pet as a result. Thanks to Red Paw, pets and their people are reunited as one family.
