Jessica Cetz Dzib, José Fco P. Cutz and Executive Director Cindy Wilber did a fantastic job of organizing a science education day that my wife and I participated in. Our 5 year old daughter also took part. It was an incredible response by the community and for hours they came and learned from the small but effective hands in science exhibits and also shared parts of their beautiful Mayan culture. As we are Native Americans this part was especially touching. It was one of the most moving experiences I've had in 30 plus years of my professional career.
This is a small Palo Alto, CA based nonprofit that does big value-added experiences for several Mayan villages east of Merida Mexico near Chixalube Puerto - families, children and adults learning together to build more sustainable lives - teaching each other
PI is a wonderful organization. It provides community support, after-school activities and education, and role models in several villages near Merida, Yucatan. While Merida is a world-class city, the nearby villages have seen a lack of progress. PI helps people band together to help themselves and their children -- give them aspirations for a better future, and help them achieve it. I am especially proud of the college students we have encouraged and supported. Often, they have a scholarship already. PI supplies bus fare so they can stay home and travel to Merida for classes, plus some support for books and supplies. When they get their degree, many stay and contribute to the community.
Since I was introduced to Proyecto Itzaes, I have seen several children go through the program and go to college. Thanks to the contributions of our donors Proyecto Itzaes has been able to grant scholarships for those who were admitted to the University to assist with transportation and book expenses. The work the Proyecto Itzaes does is making a difference in many children and their families. Education for many of them gives them opportunities and options something that their parents did not have access. Proyecto Itzaes focuses on the well-being of the whole individual from physical activity to literacy. Let's keep supporting the work of Proyecto Itzaes, spread the word!
As someone who believes in the AMAZING work Proyecto Itzaes does to continue impacting the lives of many Maya children and their families, it is an honored for me to be able to be part of this GREAT organization. I spent two summers and a winter break in Yucatan collaborating with the Asesores, young adults who are now giving back to Proyecto Itzaes and to their own community. This organization does make a difference but it needs your help so that we continue impacting children's lives.
I have continued to work with Proyecto Itzaes over the years, and continue to be amazed by the work they facilitate in Mexico. By bringing expertise and resources to small villages in the Yucatan, kids are able to enjoy all sorts of educational and developmental resources they otherwise might not have access to. They are amazing!
I worked for Proyecto Itzaes a few summers back, and the relationships I formed there remain strong to this day. There is such a strong local community, and the kids and adults alike are achieving tremendous things. I will continue to support their work and i hope that you do to!
Another year working with PI and things keep getting better. More programs, more volunteer support, more students graduating from high school, college and beyond. PI recently began new classes, from healthy pregnancy to English to environmental programming and sports. Local community members teach PI classes and in return can continue with their educations, using the small stipends they receive. PI is a part of the Yucatan and is continuing its path of good work.
I love everything about Proyecto Itzaes, from its mission to the students and communities it serves. I have had the privilege of experiencing PI in action, and it is a truly life-changing, sustainable organization. I cannot say enough good things about PI, the people who work both for and with PI, and the students who both give and receive classes at PI centers around the Yucatan. PI transforms lives and gives young students the strength, as well as the resources, to stay in school and become young professionals. I have gotten to know many of these PI students (and graduates) and they are the future leaders of Mexico and the Yucatan.
