THE PERSAD CENTER in PITTSBURGH, PA is POORLY MANAGED!

On a Tuesday morning in August of 2017 I attended a Coffee and Conversation gathering at the Persad Center led by SAGE Representative, Kathi B., of Western Pennsylvania. It was an absolutely terrible experience!

SAGE Representative, Kathi B., brought her own personal prejudices into the Persad Center and started a public verbal attack on someone else. A personal inquiry that should have been taken to a Private Space was addressed in a Public Space in front of others. The representative, Kathi B., took repeated steps to try to publicly embarrass and humiliate another person in front of the person's peers within the LGBTQ Community. (This person was me. However it is irrelevant who the targeted victim is at any given time.)

This type of behavior, when it does happen, must be condemned as unacceptable with a Zero Tolerance. The current Executive Director of Persad, Betty H., is doing an absolutely terrible job in creating a welcoming atmosphere of non-judgement, acceptance, and consideration at the Center. Unfortunately at this time there does not appear to be any Code of Conduct Training, for what is acceptable and unacceptable behavior, for these Community Representatives at the Persad Center who are seemingly thrown out there with very little if any experience.

THE PUBLIC NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THAT AT THESE FACILITIES THERE IS A LACK OF ATTENTION PAID TO ACCEPTABLE AND UNACCEPTABLE BEHAVIOR THROUGH A CODE OF CONDUCT TRAINING! WE MUST DEMAND BETTER! THE PUBLIC IS TAKING A CALCULATED RISK WHEN THEY THEMSELVES, THEIR LOVED ONES AND FAMILY, INCLUDING THEIR CHILDREN, ARE ENTERING FACILITIES LIKE THE PERSAD CENTER!

There must be focus paid to making sure that No One - Under Any Circumstances - in the LGBTQ Community is publicly embarrassed, berated, degraded, harassed, not treated with dignity and respect.

I'm an ally and I attended Pride this month (June). It was a great experience! I've heard about Persad and its great work, which prompted me to get involved in the future. During Pride, there were some religious representatives, who interfered with their cruel and negative message. It was unpleasant for many people and fortunately I saw a group of individuals, who gathered to push the representatives away. Who was that group? Persad! :-) The group was actively trying to overpower the negative message and send these people away. I was really impressed and very touched. Go Persad!
