Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Animal Protection & Welfare, Animals, Health, Rehabilitative Care

Mission: The mission of Orphan Acres Equine, Rehabilitation, and Sanctuary, Inc. is to provide care and rehabilitation for abandoned, neglected, abused, and malnourished horses, while educating the public regarding the issues surrounding rescue and rehabilitation including all aspects of horse ownership and care.

Results: We have had over 4,000 abused and neglected equines pass through our gates sense our foundation in 1975. We have placed over half of those and the rest lived out their lives in peace, dignity and love. We have also helped countless individuals who require a four legged therapist, from working with veterans to special needs children all can benefit from the quiet understanding of a horse.

Target demographics: abused and neglected equines

Direct beneficiaries per year: the 83 horses that called our herd home. We placed 4 into forever loving homes and rescued 5.

Geographic areas served: Pacific north west but have had animals placed here from as fare away as Maine

Programs: our permanent herd, for horses to old and abused to be safely transferred again. We also have retraining and gentling of our adoptable herd as well. We are directly beneficial to the community at large through our horse rescue and adoption programs and as an educational facility. In addition the community benefits through the classes and clinics offered to students from the universities, youth, adults and individuals with disabilities from the surrounding communities, all at no cost.

I have been donating and volunteering at this organization for almost two years, and I find Brent's (the president of Orphan Acres) dedication and tenacity inspiring. Currently, over 80 horses reside at this wonderful nonprofit, either living out their lives, or waiting to be adopted into a forever and loving home. Some horses are brought from horrific situations, and are then rehabilitated at this sanctuary. Most horses are brought in because the owner could either no longer care or afford the horse, so many of these horses have great potential and would make a great family pet. Going out and volunteering is really a great experience because you get to bond with all different kinds of horses, and help your community. This organization is in great need of help, for both manual labor, and financial expenses. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone.

Orphan Acres is a wonderful sanctuary for horses in need. Brent, the caretaker, does a wonderful job of providing love and care for the horses. He knows each of them by name and personality. All of the work I've done as a volunteer has brought me amazing gratitude and has been very enjoyable.

I truly enjoy volunteering at Orphan Acres. Brent, the man in charge, has done a wonderful job keeping the horses safe, well fed, and happy. There is a pasture for all of them to graze and each horse has access to hay and water all day long. Every time I volunteer there I am amazed at how well he knows every horse; there are over 80! It is a fun and rewarding experience to know that I have played my small part in being in these horses lives, letting them know that they are cared for. Orphan Acres is a great place for these animals and I hope more people get to know this place and support it.

Volunteering at Orphan Acres has been an amazing experience. They take in all of the abused and neglected horses and give them an environment where they can live with their herd and thrive. Brent, the owner/caretaker, works very hard to provide the best care for these horses, many of whom have special needs. They have had many horses live well into their 40’s which is evidence of the quality of life provided at this facility. I hope that individuals and organizations will continue to donate and support these horses (and the wonderful people that care for them).

I have volunteered here for eight years now because it is a wonderful place with a magical cause. This is where I learned how to operate my own non-profit conservation farm. Brent Glover takes care of his animals well and is a great mentor to those who chose to work in the non-profit sector of society!

Today was my first time volunteering at Orphan Acres, the first of many. I had a great experience during my time here, spending time with the horses and helping around the farm. It's an amazing thing that Orphan Acres does for these horse, cares for them, loves them, feeds them. I would definitely recommend volunteering at Orphan Acres to my friends, it is something everyone should experience for themselves.

The things that Orphan Acres does for these horses is remarkable. I am always happy to help out here, I feel like it benefits me almost as much as it benefits the horses. Overall, great place I fell in love it.

I have volunteered with Orphan Acres several times over the past three years that I've attended Washington State University, and each time is more rewarding than the last. My sorority has done multiple service projects at Orphan Acres. When we first got there, Brent gave us a brief history lesson of the ranch and how he came to care for dozens of horses. His passion for his nonprofit organization was warming and my sorority sisters and I took it to heart. We've volunteered at Orphan Acres multiple times since then and will continue to volunteer with Brent for as long as he needs us.

I had the chance to volunteer with this great organization through my sorority. I had a fantastic time meeting Brent as he is so passionate about the care that these horses receive. I had the opportunity to walk one of the blind horses Misty May and was impressed by her sweet heart. This organization is fantastic and I look forward to volunteering here again!

I began volunteering at Orphan Acres in April of 2016. It has been an invaluable experience and I have learned so much. This organization provides a safe space for community members to volunteer at any commitment level and prior horse experience. I started volunteering with very little horse experience, and have learned more and more with each visit. This organization is backed by dedicated volunteers, a selfless owner, and generous donors. My life has been profoundly impacted through this organization and the interactions I have had with the horses.

I have been volunteering at Orphan Acres for about a year now. I had never been around horses before and was unsure at first to enter such a large herd. It turns out they are very gentle and fun to be around! Now I have learned not just how to brush horses and clean stalls, but also how to interact with horses, train them, and read their personalities. The owner, Brent, is always willing teach if you want to learn more about horses. Orphan Acres is a great place to volunteer if you like to get outside and hang out with animals like I do.
