Never has there been a group of people so dedicated and committed to such an important cause. Their passion for the Orang Utan community is not only immeasurable but also addicting. The incredible research that has been done by these folks on the habitats and preservation of these fantastic creatures would amaze anyone! After hearing several hands-on experts speak along with their extremely informative video presentations, I knew right away that as long as this Foundation is around and supported , that Orang Utans would have the best chance to be protected and nurtured. What a wonderful, professional, well organized, educated and essential cause to protect such beautiful creatures!!
I have had the pleasure of volunteering for the Orang Utan Republik Foundation for a few years. It is an outstanding organization that is making a big impact to protect and raise awareness of the dire situation that the orangutans in Indonesia are in. Orangutans are only found in the rain forests of Borneo and Sumatra. It is a small organization and as a volunteer I am able to contribute and help make a meaningful difference. OURF also provides scholarships to vet students in Indonesia who are also involved in the effort to save and preserve the orangutans. Dr Shapiro has dedicated his life to this work and it's beyond work, it's a true passion and commitment on every level to save "a species through education initiatives and innovative collaborative projects"... The important work OURF is doing should be highly recognized and a great organization to get involved with. Orangutans are critically endangered and OURF works tirelessly to save this precious species.
With the raising awareness and campaigns towards global warming, there are still lots of companies destroying forests for the sake of making money. Leaving the world we live with less and less species exists. If we do nothing, many more species Will put on course to extinction, especialy the nearly extinct Orang Utan.
Personally I love animals, especially Orang Utans, because, they are so similar to us. In fact, 97% of their genes are identical to human. Wathing them live in the wild is like watching myself live in freedom. In contrast, watching them killed for hobby or for making money by our fellow human is just disheartening.
Luckily, there are some people who are willing to put their heart to protect Orang Utan from extinction, they are the guys in OURF (Orang Utan Republic Foundation). They have done fantastic job to achieve their mission. They are improving the economy of people who live nearby the forest to minimize Orang Utan trafficking. They hosts charity events, while giving education about what each of us can do to help Orang Utan's habitat unharmed. They also lobbied local government to create regulations to avoid deforestation.
Those are the moves I see OURF is doing. Clearly they are facing a high mountain to climb, and they need support from each of us. Lets protect our forests and Orang Utan together! Lets support OURF!
The Orang Utan Republik Foundation is a stellar nonprofit my wife and I gladly volunteer for. It generates awareness for rampant deforestation in Indonesia and similar locales throughout the world for the sole purpose of sating the palm oil industry. The habitat of orangutans and other fauna and flora is summarily destroyed--and thousands of acres are burned off by fire daily. There exists today far better and cheaper alternatives to palm oil that do NOT involve the destruction of rainforests and jungles. Ecosystems throughout the world are permanently decimated and the damage to our ecological system and its balances are severely compromised. The work of the Orang Utan Foundation works vigorously to combat this threat to our natural environment. It is why I wholeheartedly support and work for this foundation.
Seeing first hand what OURF stands for and the people/advocates behind it, I personally felt a connection like no other. They educate and train local people about orangutans and help improve their livelihood without sacrificing their wilderness areas. OURF's commitment to educate and assist with the deforestation problem while aiding the livelihood of orangutans, is not only touching but has made me a strong supporter as well. Their passion, commitment and unrelenting volunteer work is a true example of what every organization (non-profit or not) should strive to be! Gary Shapiro is a genuine and caring leader and advocate -- thank you Gary for introducing me to your wonderful organization.
I have been involved with Orang Utan Republik Foundation for a few years, both as a volunteer and then as a recipient of a grant to help me with my scientific research project. In that time, I have been continually impressed by the work OURF has been doing to protect orangutan populations in Indonesia. Their focus on education and providing grants for Indonesian university students to conduct stucies in to biology is unique, and has given over 100 students the opportunity to learn more about environmental issues and inspire the next generation of conservationists. I cannot recommend this charity enough.
I am very thankful to have met Gary and to get to know his foundation Orang Utan Republik. His work to protect the rain forest and its endangered species is outstanding, full of commitment and inspiring. The mission of his charity really will plant the seed to a better educated society with high morals and ethics, instead of a society which is only led by greed and money as it s sadly the current situation. I have myself volunteered in March 2015 to organise a fundraiser for Orang Utan Republic in Bali, Indonesia. We had a fantastic response from wellkown brands who donated vouchers for our prize raffle. As I strongly believe in the work of Orang Utan Republic I will volunteer for future events and help with social media to spread the awareness.
I have worked personally with Gary Shapiro and the Orang Utan Republic over the last 3 years. I have witnessed his commitment to the orangutans first hand. Gary goes to Borneo and speaks with tribal people there about poaching and sustainable palm oil practices in order to save the species. I am honored to know of a non-profit where all the proceeds actually go to the intended beneficiary. I wish there were more like him.
Orangutan Caring Club of North Sumatra CPOI-SUMUT), we would like to express our appreciation and gratitude for the Orangutan Republik Foundation (OURF), Mr Gary Shapiro, for Support we program since 2005 until 2014. Especially through the support of Mobile Education and Conservation Program (MECU: I,II, III,IV). Area Aroud the Gunung Leuser Ecosystem the Bahorok Distrik , Indonesia.
Orangutan Republik Foundation (OURF),propose to manage a Mobile Education & Conservation Unit (MECU) to deliver targeted conservation education in remote areas around the Gunung Leuser Ecosystem where human/ape conflict exists as well as conduct conservation related programs benefiting ape survival. The project’s intent is to provide a multipurpose, reliable vehicle for educators and conservation specialists of the Orangutan Caring Club of North Sumatra (CPOI Sumut) to access locations near orangutan habitat in order to (a) deliver education programs regarding orangutan, wildlife, environment, and conservation to local villagers and (b) transport of young trees to areas adjacent to orangutan habitat needing reforestation. The focus will be to address conflict issues specific to living within close proximity of the critically endangered Sumatran Orangutan (Pongo abelii) as well as the endangered Sumatran Lar Gibbon (Hylobates lar) and the endangered Siamang (Hylobates syndactylus). Additional focus will be placed on enrolling and engaging the villagers in tree planting to rehabilitate degraded orangutan and other wildlife habitat which also has the benefit of revitalizing forests and preventing floods.
The Orang Utan Republik Foundation is the Best of organization doing critical work on the ground in Indonesia to support and assist its partner groups, community development and education.
We all Thank’s very much Mr Gary Shapiro (OURF),
Herman Syahputra, chairman of Orangutan Caring Club of North Sumatera.
I have been working with Dr. Gary Shapiro and Orang Utan Republik Foundation for many years helping to promote the annual international Orangutan Caring Week (OCW) which Gary began back in 1995. The event is held in November each year and helps people and students learn about the wonderful world of orangutans and their rainforest habitat. Every year the event grows with more zoos, students, conservation groups, individuals, all participating and spreading the word about the plight of orangutans and their rainforest homes. The event helps to encourage people to not only care about these issues - but to care enough to be moved to action.
There are many people and groups all over the world working to save orangutans and their rainforest homes but the 2013 OCW theme "Unite to Fight the Extinction of the Orangutan" sums up beautifully how Gary and OURF are bringing these groups together toward the common goal of saving orangutans and their rainforest homes when we all come together during this November event as one voice to save this incredible species and the rainforest that is home to many other critically endangered animals.
We can't expect everyone to be as passionate about orangutans as we may be, but through OCW, we can help people make a personal connection and show them that the survival of orangutans has a direct impact on their own lives - on their own survival.
We show them how the products they buy have a direct impact on forests and on countless species of animals half way around the world - And that what happens half way around the world effects them right here at home. It is a small world, after all! The tremendous amounts of carbon released from the cutting and burning of the orangutans rainforest home has a direct impact on climate change and climate change affects us all, no matter where we live.
If we can help people make that connection, then they will see that they do indeed have a personal stake in the survival of orangutans. OCW helps make that important connection.
I love working with Gary! His passion is inspiring and his tireless efforts help to motivate me to want to do more and work harder every year to make Orangutan Caring week a bigger and better success, reaching more and more people with this very important message.
I have been volunteering for OURF since 2011.
I think the work Dr. Gary Shapiro is doing is important as he is pro-actively helping Orangutans through education.
I fully support his organization OURF and will continue to help them reach their goals.
