Mission: Operation Homefront (OH) mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive in the communities that they have worked so hard to protect.

Operation Homefront provides direct services to alleviate a military family’s or individual’s actual/complete emergency financial burden, as well as counseling and/or recovery support. Emergency financial assistance is in the form of checks paid directly to mortgage lenders, auto mechanics, contractors, hospitals, doctors, dentists and other providers. Other emergency funding assistance, which an applicant receives within 24 to 72 hours, includes the following:

  • Relief
    • Critical Financial Assistance
    • Rent/mortgage assistance
    • Utilities
    • Food assistance
    • Major home repair
    • Car repair
    • Rent-free transitional housing
    • And more...
  • Resilience
    • Mortgage-free homes
    • Hearts of Valor caregiver program
    Recurring Family Support
    • Free backpacks and school supplies
    • Holiday Meals for Military
    • Homefront Celebrations for military spouses
    • Star-Spangled Baby Showers

Results: Since its inception, Operation Homefront has provided more than $20 million in Critical Financial Assistance, fulfilling over 35,000 requests from more than 14,000 military families across the U.S. We have housed nearly 500 families in transitional housing, providing 4,300 months of rent-free housing, saving them $4.7 million in rent and utilities. We have placed nearly 600 families in mortgage-free homes and provided over $48 million in deeded value to military families. We have helped more than 3,200 caregivers through 60 support groups across the country. We have distributed 250,000 backpacks, 70,000 holiday meals, served nearly 8,000 military spouses at Homefront Celebrations and support nearly 16,000 new and expectant military parents.

Direct beneficiaries per year: Operation Homefront is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit whose mission is to build strong, stable, and secure military families so they can thrive — not simply struggle to get by — in the communities they have worked so hard to protect. For over fifteen years, we have provided programs that offer: RELIEF (through Critical Financial Assistance and transitional housing programs), RESILIENCY (through permanent housing and caregiver support services) and RECURRING FAMILY SUPPORT programs and services throughout the year that help military families overcome the short-term bumps in the road so they don’t become long-term chronic problems. Operation Homefront has consistently earned high ratings from leading charity rating services, including Charity Navigator, which gave OH 4 Stars for 10 consecutive years for superior service and accountability. At Operation Homefront, 92 percent of expenditures goes directly toward delivering programs and services to the military families who need it most.

Programs: Operation homefront assists military families coping with deployment and injury recovery as they struggle with unforeseen budget challenges. The most common types of need are for rent/mortgage assistance, home repair, food and utilities. Transitional housing and permanent mortgage-free home programs help military families reduce debt and achieve greater stability for the future. Family support activities address the inherent challenges of military life through programs designed to sustain, uplift and transform.

Amber from operation home-front helped us with food assistance . she has also been a emotional support seeing how she related to me . my husband has a pride issue n never wants a hand out i never see it as a hand out but as a hand up as we were sinking in debit and emotionally. if i never talked to Amber i would have had a brake down . now their is food in the house and we can pay our bills i kno to most that may be small but to our family of 8 and one on the way it was huge helping hand they have away of making u feel ok and calm down when stressed thank you so much amber and OH for all your help i don't feel hopeless i am confident that things will get better

My husband was not working, we had just found out my son needed a medical treatment/procedure that would cost $2500, and (when it rains it pours) my car was in dire need of repair. I was struggling, juggling to balance the bills, groceries, and things that seemed to keep "popping up". I was in need of help. Even though I couldn't get the exact assistance I wanted (because I am the active duty member). The assistance I received was FANTASTIC. Everybody was so pleasent and helpful. I was able to recieve clothes for my two kids and groceries. It was so appreciated. At least that was one thing I didn't have to worry about and could focus on getting my son his medical care and getting my car fixed. Thank you so much Operation Homefront!

Well, in a nutshell, our electricity was in jeopardy of being shut off. So no power, and no water. My husband was just medically retired almost 2 and a half years ago, and weve barely kept our head above water since then. We always pay our bills on time, but sometimes it wasnt always the full amount they were demanding because it was always a choice between, do I pay them this...or do I get more groceries. Do I pay them half, so I can get my kids the new underwear & socks they need, or pay them full and my kids will just have to understand and wait? Its been constant...We laid awake at night thinking about it, worrying had become my new full time job, as well as my husbands. We had pawned any and everything of value we had so we WOUDLNT have to ask for help, but I gave up, I ran out of ideas. Once I let my guard down, and the shame of this act of what I thought the OHF Reps would see as irresponsible out of my mind, I contacted them, and they was amazing. Totally professional, but relatable. Calm, when I sure as heck wasnt! And very direct, & to the point with what they could do to help me, and what they needed from me in order for them to do so. It gave me piece of mind, when I had none. My husband is leaving for his new job that is four hours away in another state, so now we have 30 days to move, and were really excited, but nervous at the same time. But were very thankful for OHF helping us pay our Electric Bill, so that we could have cool air on these strange yet VERY warm days & a nice warm shower for our kids that they always take the night before school. Its strange the things we all take for granted sometimes. Im so very thankful & grateful to Operation Homefront. And always will be.

My husband is in Afghanistan and I am back home pregnant with our 4th child, living in a home we had recently purchased prior to deployment. Our basement was flooded by a back up of sewage on the cities side of things last month. A lot of sewage... It got into our brand new furnace and before breaking the furnace distributed it throughout the house. Lots of recoil because of this. The home was unlivable, but clean-up was unattainable due to such high cost as it was sewage. I felt like giving up. I felt like taking a loss on the house and letting us get foreclosed on in our first home 9 months in... But Operation Homefront stepped in and paid for the clean-up, and our Mortgage last month, as we had been spending our Mortgage money on hotels for 3 weeks, they also supplied us with gift cards to the commissary which helped me with diapers and food. They were all very understanding, and it was very difficult for me to take the help, even though I know we desperately needed it, I just always think someone else might be out there who needs it more... The thing is, we have families, and we need to think about our children and we need to think about our Husbands too. Like mine has been having a rough time of it over there, and for him to call me during this time and for me to be able to tell him not to worry, that Operation Homefront was going to take care of everything, that it would be okay, that we were going to get through it, I'm sure gave him a little peace of mind being that he can't come home right now. We would have been homeless without Operation Homefront. It was, honestly, a miracle.

Being a Military Spouse Operation Homefront has helped me in so many ways. They provided my children with school supplies, and at Christmas we were honored with a food basket. But recently my Husband and I seperated and started our divorce. It has been rough I work full time and exhausted all of my savings finding a place for me and my daughter. I did not have enough money to buy food and gas to make it back and forth to work and her school and for a week I basicly lived off of crackers and whatever my daughter did not eat. I felt like I had no where to turn. My family being hundreds of miles away and My husband not helping me at all. I remembered how nice everyone had been over the past year at Operation Homefront so I filled out the application and they were so helpful. It was such a relief to know I could fed my child and myself. They treated me like I was a friend. And did not make me feel like a complete failure or look down on me for not being able to provide for myself or my child. Thank you so much for all that you do!!!

As a family member of a disabled veteran I have been overwhelmed by the kindness and generosity of Operation Homefront. The staff is absolutely amazing and they truely care about the hardships these vets have been through. The way this organization helps soldiers make the transition to every day life is nothing short of a God sent. Words can never describe how grateful we are for their help.

Beware this Orginization they do not do all they claim, nor do they serve the greater disabled combat veterans however they collected over 24 million last year alone. They gave me and my family false hope they have done the same to other family's I have spoken with. This Organization needs reform or adjustment it leaves the majority of disabled combat vets un assisted not even with a paper list of other help, this charity is no good Stay away BEWARE!

When we had no money for food or gas or baby items this wonderful group was there for us. They even helped us when I was expecting our first baby and did not have a car. They gave us a car so we could get around.

Operation Homefront has been very good to me. I have received assistance from at the chapter level when living in an area where there is a chapter and have received support from the national staff as well. They have provided great service and been a huge help to my family. Of all of the military organizations out there, I would seek out Operation Homefront before any others during my times of need. I am so happy to see them have such great success over the last few years. My husband just retired so while they might not be helping me, I am glad they will be here for many other families for many years to come.

As a donor to Operation Homefront, I can say Operation Homefront is an amazing organization. I did my due diligence and reviewed their financials, 4 star Charity Navigator rating, AIP "A" rating, their board membership and their strategic plan. I have found that their staff is knowledgable and proficient and their board engaged and supportive of the staff and the work of the organization. I give monthly to the organization and will continue to do so. They have been great to work with and really appreicate me as a donor.

When I returned home from Iraq in 2007 I had nothing. My husband had decided to leave right before I deployed and I was starting over as a single mom of a 4 year old. Operation Homefront was able to match me with people who provided a bed for my son and other furniture for my home. I will always be greatful for their help at a time that was very difficult for me.

My husband returned home from Afghanistan a quadriplegic. Though I was trained to care for his physical needs, I had no idea what was in store for me in dealing with the psychological and emotional trauma resulting from his physical dibilitation. We had 3 children (the youngest born while he was deployed), all under 7 years old. I was so shell-shocked & focused on the technical aspects of our lives - finances, career prospects, home/vehicle modifications, etc - that I was completely blind-sided by the intimate issues that confronted our relationship because of his new fears & insecurities. Operation Homefront helped me connect with other wives of wounded warriors, so that I could vent, ask advice, seek resources & government policy information - basically recognize that I was not as alone as I always felt being confined to my home with my husband's needs and frustrations.
