I am very thankful for this program even though I may be getting evicted soon by missing 3 of the required appointments...so I screwed me and my family with that. To others, they are very helpful just make sure you attend the classes they schedule for you or at least let them know if you can't make them. I don't want anyone to mess up there opportunity like I have. Good luck to all the service members and veterans many blessings, love, and support. Wonderful organization!
I contacted this organization for help because my car was being repossessed, which would hinder my family from being able to get my disabled husband back and forth from the VA weekly. I stated very clearly on the application that we did not have car insurance because we could not afford it. After going through the application process I was contacted and interviewed for over 20 mins. The lady then tells me that they cant help because I dont have insurance. She continued to chastise me because our bills are more than our income. I asked if there was anything she could do to help. We have 3 children under 2. She told me they could send money for diapers, baby items, and food. I had to send her another form which I did within 5 mins. She told me on the phone my claim would be processed that day. I expected the card in the mail. 9 days passed and she would not respond to my emails or return my calls. I called Wounded Warrior for help since they referred us there. I was contacted within 10 mins and I was told I never sent the document that I sent multiple times. I sent it a few more times and continued to call her over and over. I finally got a call back. She again chastised me for my financial situation and told me if I ever needed help again I had to provide proof that I submitted another VA claim, showed proof that I reapplied for the caregiver program, do another budget, and sit through financial counseling. She made me feel like I was wrongfully begging for assistance. SHe promised the card would be overnight-ed and she would send me the confirmation email so I would not miss the delivery. I did not receive the confirmation email so I went to stand in line at the food pantry. Low and behold when I got home I had a missed package slip on my door. 10 mins later I got the confirmation email she was supposed to send the day before. She then called me AGAIN to lecture me about our finances. We do not have cable, we do not go out, we do not have more than one vehicle. We pinch and scrape to get by. It took a lot for me to ask for assistance and then to be given the run around then degraded multiple times is appalling. We have 3 small children and my husband is fully disabled. We have been going round and round with the VA for over a year for a just rating. I thought I was calling an organization that would help me not make me feel like garbage when I am already doing everything I can for my family. The card finally arrived so I ran to the store and got the things we needed. I forgot to mention I was told multiple times that the card would be monitored so I better not get anything I was not approved to get or I would never get help again. I get to the cashier and the card did not work. It was activated and I saw the money sitting in the account but I could not use it for another 24 hours. I was already shamed by this organization but then I was also embarrassed at the store. I have worked with other organizations in the past that have gone above and beyond for my family. This place is a disgrace to veterans organizations. I wish wounded warrior did not support this place. I am left feeling disgusted, mistreated, and wronged after my husband has done so much for his country.
Not only have they helped me and my family personally, they helped the Family Readiness Group for my husband's ship while it was deployed. They are amazing and great people.
First off I will say you can receive a home from this organization however the condition of the home is the real issue. It seems like all major appliances began to break down as soon as the home was deeded over. Even a maintenance man who oversaw the remodel said the organization went very cheap on the remodeling. Now I'm greatful for the opportunity I was given with a free home but these homes are donated by Chase bank which means no one is really paying for it and you have celebrities like Tim McGraw and Kenny Chesney donating time and money along with common people but they cant afford to put a decent dishwasher or dyer (which has broken as of late). They couldnt even put a garage opener on for a 100% disabled vet to help lighten the load especially in the snow. My windows were broke and the organization said they would fix it but that never happened. Twice they miscalculated our property taxes and expected me to make up for there mistake financially. After the first year I couldn't wait for the deed. All i want to do now is sell this place and move on. A bit of advice: research your property taxes of the area you are applying for; don't except the home if you are not satisfied; dont purchase the home appliance warranty they offer because its crap! And enter this situation knowing the home might not be what you want or in great condition however if you can stomach it hold on for the probationary period then sell and get a few 100 grand and get what you really want. My experience might have been easier if i knew this coming in. Good luck
We are sorry to hear this was not a positive experience for this family who is receiving a mortgage-free home as part of our Homes on the Homefront program. We do our best to match the right home with the right family at the right time. Each home may have maintenance issues, as any home does, and we do our best to explain what the family will need to cover as part of the deeding process, as they will need to maintain the home on their own eventually. Families can choose to walk away from the home at any point during the program, and the home would then be awarded to another family.
yes i submitted an application (45125) for assistance. I was handled very badly by the case worker assigned to me didn't help. I submitted everything i thought you would need and then I was contacted over a week later stating you needed a lot more things, which i busted my butt providing to you. I was called eventually by y'all only to get a voicemail message left with most of the time was 5 to 10 seconds with no clear intent or instructions. A lot of the time i would call the number right back only to get a voicemail which i would leave and not have my calls returned for a few days only to be told today that you need even more and that if i don't give it to you by tomorrow my case would be closed all while I'm struggling. I don't even have family here which i stayed in this area because of my cancer treatment and don't even have the money to see family for the holidays and on top of that i get treated like this from your organization to the point where i feel all my pride, respect, and dignity was tossed to the side all for a promise of help that doesn't seem like your interested in providing. I will be submitting reviews of all this to my friends, family, service members i know as well as online and writing others to spread awareness of this issue. Im a combat wounded Purple Heart reecipient fighting terminal brain cancer and i feel i deserved better treatment then me made to feel like a beggar, bum and overall worthless person by a non profit that takes money claiming to be here to help us.
My experience here at Homefront has been very positive and also very helpful,I have been helped out in many ways by the GED program tutors. Also when you're involved in this program, they offer food bags. I am very thankful for Homefront and I will always keep in touch!
Operation Homefront responded quickly to our families need for a major vehicle repair while my husband was deployed. They were a very caring group of individuals that made me comfortable asking for help. I was treated with respect and concern from start to finish. They handled the entire case quickly! We are so greatful for this spectacular organization!
Car trouble grinds everything to a halt. So it's truly our honor to step in and help families like yours who give so much to defend our country. We wish you all the best.
My experience here at Homefront was very positive because the staff here is very educational. They push you to your highest learning ability. Homefront changed my life in so many ways. Once I leave here I will continue my education for a better career. Homefront push every woman and will change their life for the better. Homefront everyday tell you that you will be successful and always have faith in yourself because they have faith in you. Sincerely, L.C.
We are so glad your experience with us has been positive. You sound like a motivated, intelligent person who is ready to pursue a great future. We wish you all the best!
I am a 40% disabled veteran (pending 60%) and i have a occupational impairment. I had been having money issues and my disability check had not been cutting it. OH paid my rent and the past due and gave me $100 for food assistance that I did not request. I recommend them to ANYONE in a bad situation.
Thank you for sharing your story. It's our honor to help people like you who sacrifice for our country. And we are grateful to all of our supporters who make it possible. Our best to you!
I am a disabled 2X OEF wounded warrior who served in the U.S. Army for 6 years. My wife and I had just recently relocated for work with our 11 month old son, when we found out we were expecting our second edition to our family. With both of us working four jobs between the two of us, learning how to be parents, and dealing with some of my medical issues, we were completely lost when our primary vehicle broke down on the side of the road. We looked into several different financial assistance programs and started to consider selling some of our furniture when we reached out to Operation Homefront. My first impression was very positive, just from a client service perspective. Once we were finished with our application process, we were assigned our case manager Will. He was incredibly helpful and supportive to circumstances and made sure that we felt confident that help was on the way. Not only did Will and his team at Operation Homefront assist with vehicle repair, but they also send us a gift card. Thank you Operation Homefront, Thank you Will and his team, and thank you all the supporters of such a worthy cause. My family is very grateful and will always remember your kindness.
We are always encouraged by stories like yours -- a great family of patriots who just need some help when a crisis arises. We are grateful to those who support us so we are able to help someone like you get through a rough spot. It is our privilege to provide assistance because you have sacrificed so much for our country.
