My husband and I wanted to help bassett hounds. We found the North Texas Bassett Hound Rescue on the internet and filled out a foster application. We foster failed right off the bat with Pressley. Our most recent foster was Zoe a injured Bassett they rescued from a Laredo Texas shelter. The resources NTBHR used to get this sweet little girls broken leg fixed and to help her rehab back to health was amazing. The NTBHR really cares about the dogs they rescue and are very diligent about providing the best care possible for these sweet dogs. NTBHR is always trying to find ways to help raise money to help more Bassetts. I am so glad we have found this group and I look forward to many more rewarding experiences with them.

I became a foster with NTBHR so that my resident dog would have some play mates. Naturally, I foster failed with the my first dog. I picked up Shorty on Christmas day as the rescue never has a day off, and consider myself lucky I had him for as long as I did... I kept fostering with this organization because of the dedication they have to the dogs. Their only focus is the dogs and that they be placed in the right home. I'm proud to be part of the organization!
I have been a friend and shuffle participant of North Texas Basset Hound Rescue since 1995. I have adopted 3 precious basset loves along the way from them, the most recent my cutie Chloe
I love working with this organization! NTBHR is a professional, loving, organized group of dog lovers. They have made the process of fostering basset hounds as easy as possible for my husband and I. Their events are fun and well organized. Their procedures are thorough and effective. They have saved thousands of dogs! We will happily continue to work with NTBHR and encourage others to do the same!
This is a fantastic nonprofit group that rescues basset hounds. I have fostered for them for a short time, but the experience has been fun and very rewarding. I have also attended several of the Basset Shuffles that they put on every year, which are always a wonderful time for the entire family. The other volunteers I've interacted with are very nice and professional, and I would highly recommend being apart of this nonprofit in any way that interests you.
In 2010 I became a foster for NTBHR and Winston (aka Harvey) was my first. He had a rough past. The minute that boy was brought to my house for a "meet and greet," I knew he was not leaving. I officially adopted him on Mother's Day, and we have been a bonded pair ever since! Life went on and I tried fostering again in October 2014. This time I was getting a puppy mill mama from San Angelo. "Bessie" had to have 17 teeth pulled do to trying to chew her way out of the cage she lived in. She had a tummy that defied logic! Can you say "tummy tuck needed asap"! She knew nothing of living outside of a cage. As I introduced her to grass and many other things, she grew more confident. Then came the moment on Christmas morning when we were opening gifts and she just laid her sweet head in my lap and simply cuddled. I knew she was to be my girl, and I got on line and made it official. Winston and Bessie are such joy to me. So eager to please and to love. I'm so happy to have found them through NTBHR and I feel they are so grateful for a "second chance" at family.
The great folks at North Texas Basset Hound Rescue go above and beyond for our four-legged friends! They not only concentrate on North Texas, but transport from other areas. They have a true heart for rescue and providing the optimal care for bassets! Love these folks!!
I was looking to adopt a Basset after ours passed away, but I felt like I wasn't quite ready, so I became a foster parent. Since I joined the rescue, any issues I've had with my first foster Basset have been handled in a timely manner with great communication and they have done everything possible to help me and my foster. I plan on being a part of NTBHR for a very long time!
I began fostering about 2.5 years ago after one of my two resident Bassets passed away. I completed the application process and then NTBHR interviewed me, called my vet, and performed a home visit. They are very diligent in following all of their procedures to ensure the best possible outcome for their dogs. I was given a foster mentor and I attended a training seminar. My first foster had some issues sharing his humans with other dogs, so we had a private training session with a professional where I learned some positive training techniques to improve my foster's relationships with my resident dogs. I always feel like I have resources at my disposal to work through issues with the foster dogs. After all, they come from some pretty tough circumstances and each Basset has a unique personality. I get asked if it's hard for me not to adopt my fosters. I thought it would be, but the adoption coordinator does such a fantastic job matching fosters to perfect forever homes. The instance where I came closest to failing was with a fairly young, super fun female foster. However, she needed a little more play time than my older resident dogs. When I took her for a "meet and greet" with her eventual adopters, she and her new brother chased each other around endlessly. I knew it was the perfect home that even I couldn't give her. As you can see, this entire successful foster and adoption process is run entirely by unpaid volunteers so that donations fund the medical care of the dogs.
