I have been a volunteer for over 20 years and I have seen North Hills Community Outreach grow to an organization that is needed in the community and works very hard to fill that need. Their sole purpose is to continue to provide services of food, utilities, cars, gardening, school supplies, legal assistance, spring baskets, clothing, as well as directing those who need help to other agencies when we can't help them directly, and the list goes on. They are very special.
I have been involved with NHCO for over 20 years. When I started there were only three employees working for the cause, Diane, current Director of Operations, being one of them. Now we have thirty and they all do such a great job. At each board meeting we learn of a new project to help those in need. All of the thirty employees and the many volunteers should be praised for all they do for those who have been helped by their efforts.
The entire team of volunteers and staff of NHCO are driven by the sole purpose of helping neighbors through difficult circumstances that life presents. The culture and efficiency of the organization is one that should be replicated by all non-profit organizations. I am proud to be associated with NHCO!
NHCO serves a critical role in the community by helping those in need and the community (volunteers and donors) play a critical role in supporting NHCO's efforts. We are so fortunate to have such services and support for those in need.
NHCO effectively helps struggling members of our community with the generous support of their friends and neighbors.
What I love about NHCO, among other things, is that it helps people right in our own community who are struggling, often due to things out of their control, such as age or disability, or life interruptions that cause temporary needs (loss of job, accident, etc.). I try to support agencies with global impact but also love that NHCO is helping local folks who have lost their jobs, housing, etc. and need a helping hand. Whether through special projects, like Fall coats or Thanksgiving dinners or school supplies, or ongoing projects like utility assistance and the food pantries and employment resources, they do a fantastic job. I cannot speak more highly of NHCO!!
As a volunteer for NHCO and currently a board member I am so proud to be part of a wonderful organization that does so many wonderful things for so many people in need. It truly is neighbors helping neighbors.
Every time I think I know how much NHCO can do, I am surprised to learn there is so much more they are offering their community. I have been involved for nearly a decade, most recently as a Board member, and I am amazed by their breadth and depth of caring. From cars to food to education, NHCO reaches out to those most in need and does what it can. I am gratified to serve and observe each amazing effort.
I have worked with many organizations in my profession and it is refreshing to be affiliated with NHCO. It is rare to see an organization that combines compassion, effectiveness and accountability. It is astonishing how many people are impacted by this group. What an encouragement to know there are resources like this in our community. They are a role model for other non-profits!
As a Board Member for NHCO, I am constantly in awe of the incredible work that NHCO does for our area residents: They feed the hungry, guide the unemployed, clothe the needy, assist with utility payments, provide companionship and transportation for seniors, and respond to families that face natural disasters such as flood victims. They have a competent and caring staff that attempts to address the diverse needs of the community. We are blessed to have this organization as a safety net for our neighbors in need. Karen Schaeffer
North Hills Community Outreach is one of the most caring outreach organizations I have seen. It uses its resources in the most efficient and effective ways possible, to provide the most appropriate services to their clients. It is extremely creative in the numerous ways in which it approaches solutions to peoples' needs. Particularly noteworthy is the Community Auto program, the only such program around Pittsburgh that accepts donated vehicles, rehabs them as appropriate, they sells them at nominal cost to qualified clients in need of transportation.
NHCO is a terrific organization. The staff and volunteers care deeply for our clients. NHCO offers a vast array of services - which can be of great help to those in need as so many dots can be connected to help produce a very high level of assistance in multiple areas if needed.
As President of the Pittsburgh Rotary Club, as well as a three year NHCO board member, I have had the opportunity to see how effective and efficient Fay Morgan and her dedicated staff have been in reaching out to the community. Their efforts are tireless, effective, and far reaching.
The Board is a mixed group of professionals and individuals from many walks of life all cohesively working together to carry forth the mission.
There is no finer, more efficiently, and professionally run non-profit. It is an honor to emulate Fay Morgan's leadership style. NHCO is extremely deserving of being considered for this award.
I became involved with North Hills Community Outreach through its Community Auto program. The idea of repurposing donated cars by fixing them up and selling them at way below market value to needy individuals and families was so novel! Once involved, I became amazed and impressed by how well-run and well-managed the organization is. You can be sure that any donation given to NHCO is in good hands, and is going to help those who need it most.
This is a phenomenal organization that seeks to meet the needs of people in crisis in very caring, thoughtful, and creative ways. The staff and volunteers are concerned only with helping people through a crisis in a way that is beneficial and preserves their dignity. The Community Auto program that takes donated cars, fixes them up and sells them at minimal cost to people/families who need a source of transportation is an example of how the NHCO understands the basics for helping people achieve independence and add quality to their lives--a car may allow someone to take a better job, and allow children to participate in extracurricular activities.
It is truly amazing to see the passion and dedication of the volunteers who work so hard to help their neighbors. The staff is professional, knowledgable and focused in the effort and the combination of staff & volunteers make for an amazingly effective organization. I am pround to be associated with NHCO and fully support the mission.
NHCO is a gem of an organization and I'm thrilled to have had the opportunity to serve on various committees and as a Board Member over the past 5+ years. I'm truly amazed at the devotion and effectiveness of the Exectutive Director and staff as they work towards their mission. We are very fortunate to have such an organization in our community.
At the time that I joined the Board of NHCO, I was on many Boards and involved in lots of community activities. I sought out NHCO (versus the reverse) because of their grass roots approach and neighbor to neighbor assistance. I live within the geographic footprint of NHCO and very much like the idea that the organization is helping my neighbors. While my family supports non-profits serving non-US folks with food and medical care, I also like supporting an organization that is helping other Pittsburghers with day to day issues like food, utilities, housing, jobs, transportation, etc.
It is a great organization that uses all donations-- money and in-kind-- to the maximum extent. Which means that if you donate to NHCO, you know every dollar is being stretched to the most. In 30 years in the business and non-profits communities, I have never seen an organization "work" in-kind donations the way NHCO does. It is a great tribute to the executive director and staff but means maximum help to people in our community.
I am proud to be on the NHCO Board.
NHCO is a wonderful organization of "people helping People" and a blessing to the community that it serves! The executive Director, staff and volunteers all work so hard to make sure that our neighbors in crisis and hardship are provided for and cared for with such dignity that many who are helped find a way to give back when things get better for them. NHCO provides Food Pantries, Free Rides to Seniors, utility and housing assistance, holiday sharing projects, back-to-school supplies for children, just to name a few servies. I feel honored to be associated with NHCO over the past 10 years as volunteer, board member and donor.
I have been involved with NHCO for over 5 years, first on a committee to raise capital funds for a satellite office in Millvale, PA, then as a board member. NHCO is a well-run organization with dedicated & caring staff as well as generous volunteers. The Executive Director and staff are good stewards of the resources (funds, in-kind gifts, volunteer hours, etc.) that are given to the organization to help our neighbors in crisis and need.
NHCO is a terrific organization. To put it crisply...the organization takes care of people! The staff and volunteers help in so many ways, transportation, food, clothing, support, advice, utilities, housing, etc. etc. It is amazing. Another important aspect is that the organization helps people feel good and get back on their feet. I am proud to be a supporter and Board Member for NHCO
