There should be more stars ! Everyone at NHCO is so wonderful, helpful and knowledgeable ! They were there when I needed them most. The pantry workers are so helpful, especially the "Cereal Man" ! Natalie is an Angel and was so helpful and pleasant. It was refreshing to meet such wonderful people. Thank you !
I have been very impressed with this organization and contribute money to them every year. When my son was young, myself and several of my friends took parenting classes sponsered by NHCO. They were very helpful.
These people at NHCO are great... They are helping me through since my UC ran out. Natalie has been my advocate and works hard to help. I do appreciate all they have done. Very nice people also.
North Hills Community Outreach program is a wonderful establishment! The staff there is so giving! They are always ready to help their clients with anything they may need. They are always making suggestions about programs I may qualify for. They are so accommodating with the food pantry. They will let you go on special days if you cannot make the scheduled Tuesday food pantry day. I can't imagine another pantry being so considerate of their clients. They make you feel welcomed, not like a burden. They have helped and our helping so many individuals and families in their area! Keep up the good work!
I am a disabled young adult with a wife and 2 children under the age of 2. NHCO has helped me so much in the past year. Since I am unable to work, they have provided me with much needed food for my family (even the babies). At Christmas time, NHCO helped me provide my family with gifts and food so that it would be a holiday our family will happily remember. Just recenty we had a problem with our well for the water that we use. Again, NHCO stepped in an offered assistance where I was unable to do it myself. I will be forever thankful for the wonderful people and help that my family and I have received.
I was probably one of the very first clients and did not know it way back.
After our home was destroyed by a flood, NHCO came to the rescue. It is such a good organization. Our family cannot say enough about the compassion these people showed.
I joined the Family Savings Account program to get my finances under control and make it possible to buy a car. When I got accepted to physician assistant school, I decided a car wasn't as important and changed my goal to paying for tuition! What a relief to know that my next two semesters will be covered without having to take out grad PLUS loans, thanks to the education and assistance I got through NHCO.
We have never needed to go to a food bank before and everyone is just wonderful, kind, and accepting. They provide many additional services to those in need and address the needs of all ages.
Already struggling as a family last year, when the economic situation got worse, my husband lost enough hours on his job to endanger our being able to maintain life in the area. We have had to make use of the food pantry for the past year and a half, when we used to be able to donate regularly. Unfortunately, the situation has also left our 3 year old son without proper health coverage (due to an error between the current and previous insurance companies). We were not expecting to be able to get him his life-saving medicine (he has just been diagnosed with severe asthma, which is not under control yet)and asked if they might also be able to assist us with the funds we lacked for to purchase his medicine. Thankfully, they were able to give us the difference between the funds we had and what we needed to get his medicine. This saved us an emergency room visit last night!, as his asthma gets worse whenever he plays/walks more than 30 yards/ or just about any other form of exercise. His pediatrician thinks it might clear up as he gets older, but for now it is severe enough to be life-threatening. May God Bless and Keep the great people of NHCO in his care at all times! AMEN!
The people here are Excellent! We have recently fallen on extremely difficult times, with multiple complications. They don't judge, nor do they make you feel ashamed like some other organizations, for needing help. We have a 2-yr.-old son which benefitted greatly from the Santa/ Toy Shop this Christmas. With their help and that of our local community, we were able to enjoy seeing his smile as "Santa" delivered his requested toys. Toys that three days later are still getting 12 hr/day use! They also helped us keep our utilities on when we were having trouble because of being victims of identity theft, death of my father/landlord, and my husband losing hours on his job. I hope everyone involved receives as many or more blessings as they give out every year. This mother has tears in her eyes of pure happiness seeing her son still happy with "Santa"'s presents. Presents that we would never have been able to get for him ourselves, we found from the generosity of those that donated to this wonderful organization. Thanks again and may the tradition of community continue even in these tough times.

Everyone is greeted cheerfully and always treated with respect -- it helps you maintain your dignity during a hard time in your life. They offer a variety of services and referrals. They are very professional and non-judgmental.
NHCO has been a life saver. We have 3 girls and I am disabled(which makes it hard for my husband to work full time). In Nov. we had to move because the conditions of that house were bad,so when Christmas came we had nothing. NHCO put us in several programs and a toy shop,my girls had a wonderful day. They helped with backpacks,as well as winter coats for the whole family. Recently they helped with getting a vehicle. Thank you NHCO you guys are the best, God bless.
The People at the outreach are the greatest. They are very kind and willing to help you any way they can. I have been to their food pantry and they helped me to give my children a christmas. I can't thank them enough for their help and caring.
Words really don't describe what a wonderful organization this is. The staff is very knowledgeable, kind, respectful, and compassionate. I have received help in several different ways from the devoted staff and wonderful and supportive volunteers. The thing I like most about NHCO, is that even if they cannot help in one particular area, they will guide you to other resources, and at the VERY LEAST, restore your faith in the kindness of people, and even faith in yourself. My small family and I probably would not have made it through an extremely difficult time if it were not for their support, help and love. Most Sincerely, Michelle J.
This whole staff is wonderful! They help you out in every way! I am a single father who strugles month to month with 2 children.I want to thank the wonderful staff and most of all the volunters who donate the gifts and food. These goodhearted people made me smile which i haven"t done in 5 years for personal reasons. they gave my children and myself hope and joy for the holidays! thank you all from the bottom of my heart!!!!!!without you i would have struggled in many ways.THANK YOU AND GODBLESS EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU!!!!! happy holidays!
This organization helps to provide people with the needed basics of living. It has a food pantry that is stocked with a wide variety of foods as well as the very necessary toiletries. It has annual coat give-aways. Special emphasis is on the holidays where extra food, gift cards to local food stores to help supplement the holiday meal, utility payments during Christmas time, and even toys and clothing for children for all holidays. It also provides resources where people are able to recieve bags of clothes for their children during the school year. As if all this is not enough, it even helps with special financial problems that may arise. NHCO also supervises the Family Savings Plan through the state where a person saves $2,000 and the state matches their savings. Perhaps the most to be remembered from all the help I have been fortunate to receive is how kind the people who run it, and their volunteers, have been to me. No one seems to judge nor view anyone requesting help as "less-than"; they simply want to help in any way they can. It's an awesome place.
North Hills Community Outreach (NHCO) located in Millvale was there to help those devastated by the floods that nearly destroyed their community several years ago. NHCO has not yet tired in its quest to help those in need-- even old dogs! As I surfed the web I came across a wonderful volunteer, Maria Christina, via her link on the Animal Friends website trying to honor the dying wish of a transient woman Maria purposed to help. That wish was to keep "Midnight Blue", the dog owned by that transient,-- her one and only companion in life & the only soul that stayed faithfully by her side when everyone else shunned her-- alive. I saw Blue and he looked pitiful. Who'd adopt this near-death, depressed, underweight, lame, tumor-filled 14 year old? ME! I drove from Sewickley Heights to pick up Blue from a dear woman in the South Hills who had him for only 80 hours before realizing she couldn not keep him. I immmediately took Blue to Dr. Maro, my Holistic Vet up in Chippewa, where he had a full work up and holistic therapies and was found to be in fine shape even though he was about 110 in people years! Several days later and 24/7 at my side, Blue realized he wasn't going to move again and began to perk up. He had surgery and continues therapies and is now very active, very handsome, very funny, very much loved and very SPOILED! He travels with me to friends' houses and makes himself at-home and endearing. My expectations with NHCO & Animal Friends was FAR EXCEEDED!!! I wanted info and ended up with a love story. When NHCO gave its word it was kept and it met the needs of the community in ways that go beyond paperwork. Maria kept her promise to someone who died for something that can't even speak for itself. Who'd have ever noticed if NHCO gave the body of the transient woman to the coronor and put the dog down? Only Maria's own heart would know. That's why I know NHCO is a GREAT non-profit. At her own expense, Maria provided for Blue's care because his "first mom" trusted Maria would do so. Now Maria can say "mission accomplished" because Blue has a loving home, a wonderful Vet, lots of chewies, an oversized stuffed featherdown chair and blankie from which to watch TV while waiting for one of his homecooked meals to be served. He's my ol' boy and I know Blue knows I'm his new mommy. THANK YOU NHCO!
This is a great organization. Being out of work is difficult. The staff is compassionate and caring. They made me feel welcome. I appreciate their kindness, and the respect they gave to me. Thanks so much!
i'm e-mailing you to express such a honest thank you for all of your services you have given me so graciously. natalie knows alot of my story and without her guidence i'd be still in a shell somewhere. i came from an abusive relationship, molested as a child(not by any family member), not able to enter into a healthly relationship and 2 of my 4 kids were in a trauma level 1 lifeflight car crash not expected (by any doctor) to survive. through seeing the neuro critical unit team "crack my son's chest massage his heart and race him to the operating" i fell to the wall crying to the lord not to take my son away from my, he went through my divorce. abuse, etc. with me. and promised me prior he'd always be close to me. i'm his mom, his enforcer, his friend, and sometimes i don't agree with him so i become the enemy, but he says "i understand you mom and it's your uncondtional love for me that sometimes makes you make those choices i understand and love you for raising a boy to a man all on your own, i understand and love you always the same as you love us uncondtionally." i've had some hard things happen and it's out of my control...but just as i pray about my son, and daughter(whom doesn't speak to me after the accident she was also in, i don't know her reasons for the hate she carries in her heart for me...i'm going to let the lord my heavenly father take care of that), and thank the outreach center for helping me with bills, food, and just plain listening to me talk. without the help i honestly needed someone's help. no one has ever taken me under their wing and help gradually begin to heal and fly again. i pray i'll oneday again soar like an eagle through life as i once have. this is just a thank you note and appreciation of all you have done. sincere thank you, from beth
