Volunteering Oportunities

Nonprofit Overview

Causes: Children & Youth, Children & Youth Services, Homeless & Housing, Housing & Shelter, Human Services, Residential Care & Adult Day Programs

Mission: Nepal Orphans Home attends to the welfare of children in Nepal who are orphaned, abandoned, or not supported by their parents. NOH provides for the children’s basic needs of food, shelter, and clothing, as well as schooling and health care, and administers to their emotional needs with love and compassion, allowing them to grow up in a nurturing environment. Our mission is not just to rescue children from abject poverty, but to enable the children to develop and realize their potentials.

Results: In 2017 Nepal Orphans Home began its thirteenth year of operations, providing for a hundred children in four Papa’s Houses and two dozen young adults independently living in transition housing and attending college. Nearly half of the children provided for are former Kamlari girls rescued from indentured servitude. Volunteer Nepal, our affiliate volunteer program, draws talented, compassionate people, annually hosting a hundred volunteers from across the world. The Chelsea Education and Community Center began its fourth year of vocational and life skills training for older Papa’s House children and its second year of adult literacy classes to local women in the community of Dhapasi.

Programs: Teaching, Medical Assistance, Community Outreach, Orphanage Assistance, Cultural Exchange

I have been working at Chelsea Education and Community Center (CECC) as a Nepali and English instructor since one and half years which has been a great experience.
Teaching these adult and elderly women is an unforgettable experience as we get lot's of love and fun experience with them.
I got the opportunity not only to teach them but also to learn life lessons from them.
CECC focuses on educating women as well as giving them life skills knowledge which is beneficial for their day to day activities.
Besides working with elderly and adult women I also work with NOH kids who have lots of enthusiasm to learn.
Getting the chance to work in this organization is a great opportunity and lifetime experience which I will never forget. :)

I have been working at the Chelsea Education and Community center for one and half years. It is a great feeling to work with the adults. It does not feel like a workplace as we get lots of love and respect from the women who are like our mothers, and the teammate co-operation is also awesome. Different types of workshops are also held which help the women to boost up their knowledge of social and personal issues.

I joined Volunteer Nepal as a communication officer in the September of 2016. I truly feel lucky enough to be associated with Volunteer Nepal (VN) and Nepal Orphans Home (NOH). The thing I appreciate most about VN is the openness and the love and appreciation that everyone receives here. You can play multiple roles and there is always so much to contribute in all areas. Until this month, we've had national and international volunteers all over the country, providing teaching assistance at a local school in a remote village in the hills, to providing medical assistance at health clinics in the northern mountains, to the numerous individuals who stayed in Kathmandu to spend their time volunteering at a baby orphanage, a special education and rehabilitation center for disabled children, and helping the women of Dhapasi community with English Conversation class at the Chelsea Center. There is a bigger picture to the work I do and not a day goes by that I am not deeply inspired by the work that VN and NOH does.

All the staff at VN love what they do, and it shows in the strong relationships we have built with our volunteers and our beneficiaries. I am truly blessed to a part of such a wonderful place and to work side by side with such an enthusiastic team.

I have worked with the Chelsea Education and Community Center (CECC) for the past ten months, and I am impressed by all the CECC and its umbrella organization NOH have accomplished. Every Friday, volunteers from Volunteer Nepal host workshops for the Chelsea Center's women and children, teaching them about leadership skills, public speaking, health issues, and much more. The children of NOH and the women of the CECC have incredible energy. They make you feel as though you are their brothers and sisters when you participate in classes, workshops, or special events with them.
