After Sandy, Modest Needs Foundation was there
to step in and help, when our pleas for help went
unanswered by other more established charities,
( you know who you are 8% of funds raised given to
disaster relief ). I now pay it forward and yearly give as much as
possible to a worthy and efficient charity. They do all the vetting
so you know your money goes to the right persons without any
enormous overhead costs.
Modest Needs is an amazing charity, funded by common people, to help those in crisis. They helped my family when our car was in need of critical repair. Many more just like us receive help everyday. Each applicant is fully vetted, and funds are sent directly to the vender to whom the money is owed for bills or repairs. This way, money isn’t being spent frivolously like can happen with some other crowdfunded agencies. This is by far the best agency I’ve ever found for help during emergencies.
Modest Needs goes above and beyond to try and help every person possible. If not for Modest Needs my husband and I would have no way of getting to doctors appointments, grocery stores, etc. Being elderly and having no family in the area made for a very tough situation when our vehicle broke down and needed repairs we could not afford to take care of. Modest Needs has helped many people in many different situations and in my opinion is the best Foundation ever.
This organization helped me when no one else would. No one. I work full time, I've never received any government assistance, and I couldn't get help for my power bill from anyone. I couldn't even get anyone to even speak to me or listen to my predicament. They asked for a lot of documentation and proof of need but I received the help in less than 10 days. They did not just help me with a power bill. These people helped my emotional well-being. I don't care what anyone has to say negative about this organization. They are helping real people. They were friendly and responsive to my phone calls and emails. They even called the power company for me.
Last year, my wife was forced out of work due to illness. The bills were piling up and we just couldn't keep up, much less get ahead.
When Winter came, we needed to fill our oil tank but there was barely enough money for food much less the $900 to fill the tank.
Modest Needs helped us by obtaining a grant for us which covered this cost. Without Modest Needs, it would have been a long, cold, tragic winter.
I cannot praise them enough. They were a true blessing!
Modest Needs gave me the boost I needed in my time of need. I am so thankful that there is an organization that has members who sincerely care about the needs of others. I was skeptical at first, and didn't know what to expect, when I applied for Modest Needs assistance. They were very kind, and let me know what my status was, every time I got closer to my application being funded by caring members. To my surprise, my needs were promptly met with a check to pay my electric bill, and kept me and my kids out of the dark. Thank you Modest Needs, for helping me and others that have fallen on tough times! :)
When an expensive car repair set me back financially, Modest Needs was able to pay my rent! As a single mother of three, and no family members available to help us, I was facing eviction with no where to go! I can not begin to express the relief that I felt when Modest Needs said they had found a donor! I will be forever grateful to Modest Needs for fulfilling my family's need! I have recommended this site to several of my coworkers when they were in need. Modest Needs employees were always friendly, and helpful. They never made me feel like a "charity case" like some agencies do. They always treated me with respect and kindness, they empathized with me and went above and beyond to help my family. Modest Needs is truly a foundation you can count on! Modest Needs truly renewed my faith in humanity & the kindness of others!
Modest Needs was my guardian angel! In 2012 I relocated to Georgia for a nursing position with the VA. I was 6 months pregnant and had no family. It was my plant to work up until my scheduled due date of July 26th.; but I began to experience complications with my blood pressure. I went into premature labor three times and eventually delivered my baby at 36 weeks. I did not have enough vacation or sick time accumulated and exhausted my savings on relocating. I was afraid and alone but Modest Needs gave me hope and helped to pay my rent. It is a scary feeling not knowing whether you will have a roof over your head and I was a new mom. I became a nurse so that I could help others and it is a wonderful feeling to know that I had somewhere to turn for help. Thank you Modest Needs!

Your organization really helped my family get back on its feet after Superstorm Sandy. I have never reached out for help in any way and it felt so good after serving 100 days in the storm to help others to finally be recongined myself. THANK YOU AGAIN from the bottom of our hearts. We really needed the help and way to modest to ever ask but we did!!!
I want to say thank you for helping my family get back on our feet!!! We were very close to losing everything!! I cant thank you enough. Modest need is an amazing organization! We are in a great place in our lives now! The neurologist released my fiance and he is back to work, and im getting a promotion at work!!! It would have been alot harder for us to get here with out modest needs! Thank you!
Wow! What a Godsend Modest Needs has been for me and my family. Through generous donors I was able to get my two crowns on my teeth. Times were especially difficult at the time for me and my husband due to my husband having to take cut hours at his job. I needed his help to stay healthy at the end of my pregnancy with our sixth child. I have no help at home with our children except my husband so he had to stay home with me and our son for a couple of weeks before returning to work. This is a wonderful non-profit agency and I don't know what I would have done without them. Joanne.
Modest Needs came through for me when every one else turned their backs or closed their eyes. I understand my need was not life threatening but it was an issue of health, self esteem, and generally over all cleanliness. My hot water tank died and I went for almost six months without hot water. I'm 57, I live alone, had just returned to college after 25 years, I've had numerous back surgeries and I have Fibromyalgia. Hot water helped me with both my back pain and my Fibromyalgia, and of course I could clean up in the sink by heating water, but I never felt clean. No one in my city of 50,000 was willing to help because they said hot water was not a necessity. Modest needs accepted my application right away, and on my last day I was approved. I wrote my thank you letter and my check arrived, in less than a week I had hot water. There really are no words to thank Modest Needs or the people who helped a complete stranger get back some comfort and feel better about herself and her life. Thank you so much.
I'm very grateful for Modest Needs and I thank God for them. They helped me with a car repair that kept my car running. If I had lost my car, I would have lost my job. The job requires me to use my car and I had just got the job when my car needed the repair. Being a single mom living in a homeless family shelter at the time, I had just got the job and I was about to lose it. The situation was very frantic for me. So again I say I thank God for their gift.

I am a wife and mother of two children. In October 2012, our house in Staten Island, NY, like so many others, was severely damaged by Hurricane Sandy. We were so confused on what to do next and how to get help. Someone told me about the Modest Needs non-profit organization. I have never asked for help from any person or organization in all my life; I thought it would be humiliating. However, it was not humiliating at all dealing with Modest Needs. We needed a washer and dryer to help us get our home back together. After providing the requested information, Modest Needs came through within a week. They bought a washer and dryer for our home. I am so thankful for the Modest Needs foundation. Their communication with me throughout the process (which was only a week long) was timely, clear, and concise. It was a pleasure dealing with Modest Needs and I am so thankful for their existence. They really helped us in a time of need.
When I had to replace my 15 year old service dog, I began training my own because to buy a trained Service Dog was out of the question. I was able to place her with a wonderful trainer, but with all the vet bills, food, etc. I had no money for the specialized equipment she needed to be a mobility assist dog.
Thanks to the help I received from Modest Needs, I now have that equipment, my independence, and a renewed belief that there are wonderful people willing to help others through the rough times. Living on a fixed income from the VA has its limitations, thanks for all you have done for me.
I stumbled across Modest Needs last year doing an internet search. I had recently finished cancer treatment, and we had gotten behind in some bills. Winter was coming, and we had no propane, or money to get any. I was desperate, so I tried. I really did not think I would get any help, but I did! They helped us when we needed it the most, and I am so thankful! They were also very kind and helpful when our propane company sent back the check (I guess they didn't know who's account to credit the check to), and were quick to send out another one. :)
Modest Needs is a non-profit organization. It has helped so many, including myself. Their website is www.modestneeds.org, and there you will be able to read and understand all of the good things they have been able to accomplish. The help given makes the difference between someone having a place to live or not, or having assistance for other unforseen challenges. For this I am personally grateful, and would highly recommend them as a source of guidance and help when you've tried all other practical avenues. They care and will help guide you through the application process, as well as keep you posted on the progress being made on your behalf. I will always, always remember the professional guidance, as well as the great relief I felt when I had an urgent need filled. Respectfully yours, a former and appreciative client of Modest Needs. Ms. Kat
Hi my name is Candace and would love to tell you a little bit about my experience with modest needs. Being a single parent and having a special needs child is very challenging. Sometimes just a little help or a simple need being fulfilled means all the difference in the world. I was absolutely amazed by the generosity that was shown from people that had never met my family or I . Having an incontinent child I was at a total loss when our washing machine had given out. I saw the modest needs foundation online and within 60 days to my surprise a brand new one was delivered to my door. I will be forever grateful to modest needs and everyone that makes this kind of organization possible. Thank you
