Minnie's Food Pantry rolls out the red carpet for everyone - the people they serve, the volunteers that donate their time and the donors who donate food and money. They are led by the fabulous Dr. Cheryl 'Action' Jackson who's passion for serving is contagious. The team ensures that every person who walks through the doors of the building are served with a smile and a hug. The now infamous chant of 'If you can't feed a hundred people, feed just one' says it all in a nutshell. No matter how big or small the difference is...they encourage everyone to just make A DIFFERENCE. And Minnie's does just that for thousands of families every year.

Minnie's Food Pantry is a nonprofit organization that helps people that can’t afford food. It was founded on April 1,2008, by Dr. Cheryl Jackson. When I walked in the the first thing I saw was the red carpet leading us to the front desk. I wondered why there is a red carpet in a food pantry. Later during the orientation I learned that the red carpet was there so that the people that walk in there feel special. At first I thought the name Minnie was the founder's name. Minnie was Cheryl’s mother’s name. When her father died she wanted the world to know her name, so she started Minnie’s Food Pantry. During Cheryl’s life she had a hard time providing food for her family. She applied for food stamps but had a little too much money. She found a job that helped get enough money to do what she needed to do. Minnie’s Food Pantry receives no government support and is 100% community funded. They have been featured on: The Food Network’s documentary, Hunger Hits Home, The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Good Morning America, Entertainment Tonight, The Talk and The Steve Harvey Show, amongst others.
I had a good time volunteering there. Since I wasn't older than 13 I couldn't do the things the older people were doing. Instead I decorated paper bags for children my age and younger, who don’t have that much food. On the bags we wrote bible verses, prayers, “Have a Great Day!”, and we drew many things. After that we filled the bags with milk, granola bars, fruit snacks, and crackers. Then we filled “Day Labor Bags.” Day Labor Bags are bags with premade food in them. They are for people who work but don’t get paid. In them we put water, juice, mac & cheese, canned sausages, crackers, granola bars, and fruit snacks. I wondered how they were going to eat the mac & cheese. Then they told me the people can just walk up to the nearest 7 Eleven to get hot water. Then we cleaned the whole place by sweeping the floors, picking up trash, mopping the floors, wiping the tables and the chairs, and rearranging everything to make the place look nice.
This was a very nice opportunity. When I was there, there were people who volunteer there every week! This was my first time volunteering there but probably not my last time. It made me realize how lucky I am to have food on my table everyday. These people they are serving don’t have anything. I think it’s nice for people to spend their time helping the least fortunate. The work of mercy I chose was feed the hungry. I chose this because I wanted to help those who are less fortunate then I am. I didn’t see any hungry people when I was there, but some of the other volunteer’s did. I had a really nice time there, and everybody was so nice. Everyone there had such a big heart, devoting their time for those in need. On Saturday mornings I spend my time on my phone this time I actually did something to help people. I really do recommend volunteering at Minnie’s Food Pantry.

CalTech volunteered at Minnies Food Panty this week and it was an awesome experience! It was so organized it made us want to come back! We are trying to figure out when we can come back and do it again! Lynette and her whole team were great leaders and have done an outstanding job streamling their process! I would encourage anyone who wants to give back to the community to contact Minnies and see how you can help!

I volunteered on last Friday, and Minnie's treats every member of the society with so much care and compassion. I enjoyed every minute volunteering at this location, and I felt that I was able to make a difference in the community. One of the best non profits in the DFW area for sure.

Focus is on helping families, veterans and other people in need in the community with a variety of resources. Food of course being one, and a lot of food passes thru that facility, but also with training on finances and how to prepare meals with the food received. Also, there are clothing items, books, and other sundry items. The staff is beyond nice, they are family to these people. I was impressed and will be volunteering agian

I had a great experience at Minnie's Food Pantry. I have volunteered at many places in the past few years but none have been as rewarding as helping out at Minnie's. Everyone there was extremely friendly and made all the volunteers feel welcomed and appreciated. I especially enjoyed meeting some of the clients that come in for services. I had the opportunity to help carry out the food and really enjoyed talking to the clients and learning a bit about each of them. I also really liked how well organized Minnie's operation is, it seems to all work so well and I know the reason is because of the great staff they have. Congratulations on your great team!!

This is the first time that I have volunteered at Minnies Food Pantry Inc. My first reaction was
very positive! The overall energy and attitude is very welcoming and friendly. The people at check in were kind and patient, they did not seem frustrated or overwhelmed with a full house of people. The facility seems extremely organized and CLEAN. I will volunteer again at some point in the future.

About 20 of us volunteered from our company. We received orientation and assignments. We were busy from 8AM until 11:30AM, non stop. I LOVED it!

The staff at Minnie's was great. They were very friendly and knowledgeable. They gave us a tour of their facilities, the story behind Minnie's and informed us of their community needs, relationships and people that they serve.

I've volunteered with other organizations in the community and they can be very unorganized and not a good use of our time for the number of employees that come to volunteer. I am very impressed with the organization of the various jobs that we were able to do. I can't believe we prepared and served so many people in that short amount of time.

I would like to go back again.

This was a great volunteer experience! The staff at Minnie's is extremely organized and succeed in achieving an incredibly efficient and well-run operation. The facility is also extremely clean. More volunteer organizations should follow this model, especially when dealing with food and other perishable items which require quick turnover.

I recently volunteered at Minnie's Food Pantry. I verified can good expiration dates, sorted items, stacked shelves and helped create need boxes of grocery items. Took donated clothing and other items to drop off locations. This was a very rewarding experience. I was amazed at the dedication of the employees and in awe of the amount of food and meals that this organization provides to those in need. Truly amazing!!!!

This was my first time volunteering at Minnie's Food Pantry and it was a most exceptional experience. When the economy crashed in California 2008-2010, I was a food bank customer. Comparing Minnie's to that one, Minnie's is like the taj mahal of food banks! From the quality of the food, to the service, to the personality and style of the personnel. I will go back to volunteer with my company every year. And their resale boutique is amazing as well! I would recommend this food bank to anyone looking for sure!

Minnie's Pantry is a wonderful opportunity to volunteer. Not only because of the cause that they support but also because they are super friendly and also highly organized. Which made the volunteer experience a very positive and productive one. All of the volunteers (50+) had continuous tasks to do the entire time we were there. Dr Cheryl Jackson was there and she is a magnificent soul, fun, loving , smart and a true motivator. Her personality and spirit kept the team going at a great pace and helped everyone enjoy themselves.
