Easily the most professional and transparent non-profit I have ever worked with. The best thing about MAD is that it has created and successfully applied a methodology to the education sector at the grassroot level. It doesn't just teach certain subjects or provide employment - it's something that works on altering the perception and process of thinking of a child and actually manages to pull it off.
I have trained this crazy bunch of young and truly 'M A D' people.. and i wish all our teachers in all our schools had the same zeal! :) These young people are out to impact the lives more young people... the best favour that can be returned to the society they are in.. I wish them all the good luck.. May your tribe increase.. :)
I first met the MAD group as a trainer- I did two years of teacher training and now, I have stayed on with them as a friend and possible resource person. When we first met in 2007, the group was looking for 'process-training'- how to teach the children in the orphanages so that it was different from school, fun, yet meaningful. In the past two years, they have moved towards working with EZ Vidya and developing a 'syllabus' and several other guides and support materials so that the young volunteers (average age: 19-22) can feel confident about teaching the children. Monitoring of volunteers, training, sharing experiences, blogging- all these are part of the MAD approach. Commitment from these youngsters (who could as easily find a million other things to do during the weekends) is what has kept the concept of teaching the less fortunate children alive. MAD now has a presence in several cities apart from Cochin, where it all began. And the results are there to see: happy children in the orphanages who enjoy the company of their weekend teachers, improved academic results and managements/committees who now request MAD volunteers to work with their children. I think that MAD has made great strides in doing what they set out to: giving the children in the orphanages a life by giving them competence in English. Ratan Gopinath Bangalore
More than 500 young professionals from different fields and the one intention binding them ' Purposeful education for the ones who need it most'. Our team became a part of this endeavor only because of the uncompromising stance taken by MAD towards enhancing the quality of service rendered. Offering service is commendable in itself but working towards continual improvement in the service rendered makes the service heart to heart igniting the passion in all who come close, the learner and the teacher learner too.
Make a Difference is a truly inspirational paradigm of how anyone with will and determination can change the world. I have worked with the MAD folks on several occasions and their enthusiasm and belief in the children they teach are what keep them going. From a small volunteer group, they have grown tremendously and are now in 9 cities across India - building skills in thousands of low-income children. MAD is at the core of the volunteer revolution in India - over 2000 volunteers - mostly students, form the backbone of the organization. These volunteers have learned to give back to their communities - they have learned to make a difference. Their story must be told. - Prathima Rodrigues
Being a person closely watching the activities of MAD, I am more than happy with the commitment and dedication of the volunteers, and their meticulous planning and impeccable execution of the programmes for a CAUSE. Their contribution for the development of the underprevilaged will be suitably rewarded by Time. I am sure they are going to MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
Cheers to the exuberant volunteers and the innovative approaches you guys take to Make a Difference for children. I work for an NGO in Bangalore and I’ve heard about your initiatives through word of mouth. You guys are setting a wonderful example and may aid and support come to you from all avenues. Kudos
i got to know of MAD through a friend who was passionately committed to it. I was witness to the way MAD completely changed her life- gave her a purpose beyond the small concerns of an individual life and made her a part of something much larger. I have been associated with MAD in a very small way, but i see how the commitment of a few people have made a huge difference in the life of so many young children. Just by giving these kids an opportunity, just by believing in them MAD has opened a whole new world for them. To me MAD is special because every individual associated with it, genuinely cares about the kids MAD supports. To the volunteers for MAD, this is not a job, this is not a step to something higher. It is what defines them.
I have had the good fortune of having been part of the evolution of this group of youngtsers over the past three years. Their committment to their Mission to enhance quality of life of underprivelged children iw worth emulation by the NGO's in this segment. The fact that the vision of a few, has been transformed into the Mission of a few hundred needs to be specially commended. I believe that the likes of Jithin, Sujith,Gloria and Sanjana come by ever so rarely. I wish them and all associated with them the very best in their endeavors and assure them of my involvement in this their committment as long as they feel the need to have me around.
