The theme of this organization is "let the kids play".
I have watched a new athlete start as unsure if this is a good thing for him or her.
Within five minutes almost all decide "I can do this".
Then, as skills develop, confidence builds and pleasure increases.
It is a joy to watch.
I have known Bryan for many years. When he first came to me for support for the Long Island Sled Hockey team I jumped at the chance to help this wonderful organization, little did I know the profound effect this organization would have for so many families. From the the Donors right down to the athletes I don't of any other organization that fosters such a Family/Community atmosphere. I am proud to be a small part of a Great organization.
I have seen the wonderful things this program does for ""The Kids". It give me great pleasure to continue supporting this fine organization.
This organization is one of the best I have ever seen. All monies go directly to the organization so they can get sleds, ice time and needed equipment for the players, and never asking anything in return, only that the players and their parents and family are taken care of and have a good time. Their coaching staff is understanding of all players needs, and their volunteers are exceptional in their work with the team.
I have been involved with this organization for a number of years basically as and aide in the fundraising end. The people who run this organization somehow have endless hours of concern for the members of this team. They not only teach but support everyone who plays for them and their parents. They never turn anyone away and actually add to the program every year. No matter what the disability the athlete has when he or she starts the program you would never know it by seeing them on the ice. The athletes all seem to enjoy playing and do work together as one. It give me great pleasure seeing them play and makes me ever so thankful of the ability that I have and my sons who have played ice hockey who were fortunate to be healthy and able to play this game. The heart that these athletes have is great and is shown in their faces and on the faces of the caching staff and volunteers who help make this all possible. Great organization. Thank God there is still people in this world who care about others who are less fortunate to be healthy.
This is a worth while organization to support. ALL funds go directly to the program. The participants get all their equipment & travel supplied. This takes the pressure off the members and families. This allows these physically challenged athletes to enjoy the sport.
Not only does The Long Island Rough Rider Sled Hockey Program offer a healthy alternative for the disabled athlete but through the hard work and effort of the program's athletes and coaches as well as tremendous community and fan support this program has become a premier sled hockey program winning tournaments both nationally and abroad. Watching the growth of this program from its infancy to where it is today has been a joy. There seems to be no limit to Long Island Sled Hockey's future growth!
I have been attending fund raisers for LI Sled Hockey for 17 years and I am always impressed with the dedication and concern of the volunteers and staff. Having seen this team in action on the ice, it is hard to believe that any of the players are at all physically or mentally challenged. LI Sled Hockey is to be highly commended for providing an opportunity for these players to not only play a sport, but to travel with the team for tournaments.
It is wonderful to see how much these athletes enjoy participating with other athletes with disabilities and how much effort they make just to be involved. All the volunteers who make this possible deserve the highest praise for their unselfish giving of their time. A truly exceptional organization.
