Programs: Preserving the home: (housing and community economic development) advocates provided legal assistance in housing (e. G. , uninhabitable dwellings, evictions, foreclosure, other threats to homeownership, section 8 preservation); assistance to those who were homeless or threatened with homelessness; assistance that enhanced safety and security in residential housing and low income communities subject to crime and violence; community economic development addressing the lack of affordable housing and displacement due to redevelopment; environmental issues (e. G. , lead/toxics); housing discrimination. This program worked on 5,991 cases in 260 days.
support for families (family law & immigration law): advocates provided legal assistance that supported the integrity, safety, and well-being of the family including, child care; access/information re: community and financial resources; domestic violence, child support, custody issues; education; naturalization and immigration services. This program worked on 1,979 cases in 260 days.
maintaining economic stability (government benefits, employment and consumer law): advocates assisted clients to obtain unemployment benefits, disability, aid to needy families/children/individuals and other benefits which preserve a source of income and support for families and individuals; and assisted clients with consumer issues threatening basic economic stability, e. G. , consumer fraud, credit, and access to financial resources; job development, training and education issues; wage claims and employment discrimination; removing barriers to employment. This program woked on 2,819 cases in 260 days.
I am an attorney who has taken a number of pro bono projects from Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles. It is a very well-run organization that is truly focused on helping low or no income people in Los Angeles County. LAFLA also runs a lot of great clinics for veterans, immigrants, and other at-risk groups in the Los Angeles area.
