I became aware of the Kimmel Housing Development Foundation through the work of a family member for the foundation, and since then I have watched the progress of the foundation's work with great interest. In particular I have interacted with the residents of the Westbury houses and have been extremely impressed with their delight in their living conditions and the state of the buildings.
I have been a supporter, as well as a Board member, of this organization for the past 6 or so years, and have been privileged to assist it in serving the needs of those in the Long Island community for whom affordable, quality housing has long been an elusive dream. The Kimmel Housing Development Foundation has succeeded in exceeding all expectations, and continues its efforts and innovative approaches to "housing for all the people."
The Kimmel Housing Development Foundation incredibly develops truely affordable and very livable housing on Long Island. Against the odds, this group has found land to create housing for seniors and working poor people. Additionally, they recently added a lovely park adjacent to one of the buildings. I was at the dedication ceremony for the park, attended by people who live in the building, board members of the Foundation, local politicans, local interdenominational clergy, and community members at large. The positive spirit was hard to match anywhere. Despite the bare bones staff there is much to applaud!
