Mission: The Kids In Need Foundation is a national 501(c)(3) charitable organization founded in 1995. The Foundation’s mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need. Our School Ready Supplies program distributes backpacks filled with supplies in communities not served by Resource Centers. The Second Responder® program provides free backpacks filled with school supplies to students affected by natural disasters. The Kids In Need Foundation has distributed more than $900 million in school supplies since its founding, directly benefiting 5.4 million students and 160,000 teachers annually, and has awarded more than $2 million in grants to teachers. The Kids in Need Foundation's staff graciously came out and spoke to a group of teachers about grantseeking at a library workshop. It was clear from my interactions with them that they are seriously passionate about the organization's mission, hold professional expertise, and conduct their work with high efficiency and little if no waste.
