Mission: Kids In A New Groove is a 501c3 non-profit that provides Texas youth in foster care with a committed one-on-one mentoring relationship through weekly, private music instruction, giving students the ability to build concrete strategies for life-long success. By creating a consistent and nurturing environment, we empower youth in foster care to transform their future through music mentorship.
Results: KING’s Mentoring through Music program offers stability and support to Texas youth in foster care. Music provides a therapeutic outlet, teaches persistence, and nourishes students’ self esteem. Mentoring relationships can serve as a catalyst for developmental and interpersonal processes that, in turn, help youth avoid problems and reach their full potential. Combining the benefits of a mentoring relationship with music provides KING students with a unique opportunity to overcome the negative cycle associated with youth in foster care.
KING students’ success reaches beyond the program. Since 2015, 100% of eligible KING seniors graduated high school; the national average for youth in foster care is less than 50%. Of those graduates, 95% went on to attend college, technical school, or enlist in the military.

Kids in a New Groove is a great organization that was founded by great people!
In the past, youth in the Texas Foster Care System have lacked these types of service, but now Kids in a New Groove is making it possible! I do not know of other organizations that offer free music lessons to foster care youth, so when I heard about Kids in a New Groove I could not wait to be apart of such an inspiring organization.
Most children in foster care would never be able to experience these opportunities. Youth growing up in the foster care system might not ever have the opportunity to engage in music lessons with a qualified music teacher, but now that is an option made possible through Kids in a New Groove. This is a great program that can not only help boost their self-esteem, but introduce them to music. This program offers so much more than words can describe. I think this program can be therapeutic and can make a HUG difference in the lives of our foster youth. Everyone that I have spoken to loves the program and has nothing but positive things to say. Caseworkers have reported that youth that participate in this program often improve their behaviors and grades in school. This program reinforces positive behavior and I think can have great outcomes for the youth.
Let's continue to support this organization and help them grow so they can serve more youth in the foster care system!
