Causes: Arts & Culture, Visual Arts

Mission: K Space Contemporary is an artist operated 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and promoting contemporary art to South Texas.

Target demographics: South Texas locals and tourists

Programs: Exhibition of innovative contemporary art by local emerging & mid-career artists for the purpose of promoting their work and providing educational programs including a forum for new art forms. Featured exhibitions consisted of: fables - wood sculpture by john webb; versantium - texas a&m university bachelor of fine arts; contemporary art month; santos,chamucos and backyard ofrendas, ricardo ruiz discarded, exquisite remnants by courtney n. Bracco; twins painting; third coast national juried competition and "spectacular salon" & annual handmade ornament show. These exhibitions were attended or visited by approximately 11,000 people.

cultural events are held to promote culture through the work of local artists, musicians and performers and to make it accessible to the general public. The dia de los muertos festival held nov 1st featured an art exhibition of 25 artists, educational workshops, an art expo with 90 arts & craft vendors, and 220 musicians and other performers. Educational workshops consisted of sugar skulls, a paint-a-long, paper mache masks, calaverra make-up and mexican folk art. An altar exhibition was created by approx. 130 children from local youth groups. Art exhibitions consisted of: "fables & folktales of south texas" and "extravagancia de pinatas". An estimated 50,000 people attended. The loteria corpus christi public mural, which opened october 3rd, was created by 24 south texas artists on a downtown building wall and is available for viewing by the general public. An estimated 30,000-40,000 people will view the mural annually.

educational programs offer opportunity to anyone interested in learning about art as well as those trying to improve their art skills. A summer art camp for youth ages 11-17 was held during june and july and offered classes in anime, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking and papier mache. Gallery lectures, demonstrations and workshops are held thoughout the year by exhibiting artists and available to all ages.

In the last decade I have visited almost every significant contemporary art gallery in the major cities in Texas in every corner of the state. K Space Contemporary is a national class venue showing the best national and state contemporary cutting edge new works by well known artists as well as very accomplished talented South Texas artists. In addition to remarkable exhibitions KSC hosts some of the most fun affordable gala events in the arts anywhere! Be sure to see their Wigout08 gala photos on their website www.kspacecontemporary.org AND their event hors d'oeuvres and wines are perfectly paired, always sponsored and very classy. If you want to sponsor a really nice event in the arts contact K Space! Membership in KSC is a big bargin considering there are no cash bars and events are free to members! What is that? Nuff said.

K Space Contemporary is THE most well run organization I have been a part of. They operate with very little funding and they do a fantastic job! The level of passion for the community and contemporary art is amazing. THANK YOU K SPACE.
