Causes: Arts & Culture, Visual Arts

Mission: K Space Contemporary is an artist operated 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization dedicated to presenting and promoting contemporary art to South Texas.

Target demographics: South Texas locals and tourists

Programs: Exhibition of innovative contemporary art by local emerging & mid-career artists for the purpose of promoting their work and providing educational programs including a forum for new art forms. Featured exhibitions consisted of: fables - wood sculpture by john webb; versantium - texas a&m university bachelor of fine arts; contemporary art month; santos,chamucos and backyard ofrendas, ricardo ruiz discarded, exquisite remnants by courtney n. Bracco; twins painting; third coast national juried competition and "spectacular salon" & annual handmade ornament show. These exhibitions were attended or visited by approximately 11,000 people.

cultural events are held to promote culture through the work of local artists, musicians and performers and to make it accessible to the general public. The dia de los muertos festival held nov 1st featured an art exhibition of 25 artists, educational workshops, an art expo with 90 arts & craft vendors, and 220 musicians and other performers. Educational workshops consisted of sugar skulls, a paint-a-long, paper mache masks, calaverra make-up and mexican folk art. An altar exhibition was created by approx. 130 children from local youth groups. Art exhibitions consisted of: "fables & folktales of south texas" and "extravagancia de pinatas". An estimated 50,000 people attended. The loteria corpus christi public mural, which opened october 3rd, was created by 24 south texas artists on a downtown building wall and is available for viewing by the general public. An estimated 30,000-40,000 people will view the mural annually.

educational programs offer opportunity to anyone interested in learning about art as well as those trying to improve their art skills. A summer art camp for youth ages 11-17 was held during june and july and offered classes in anime, photography, drawing, painting, printmaking and papier mache. Gallery lectures, demonstrations and workshops are held thoughout the year by exhibiting artists and available to all ages.

This gallery is the most unique contemporary art gallery in South Texas. It highlights local and regional artists but also brings in artists from around the United States who otherwise would not have a venue in this area. K-Space also serves the community in concrete ways by sponsoring educational talks and workshops which are free to the public.
