I began as a volunteer with IMI about 8 years ago and subsequently was asked to serve on the Board of Directors. I am finishing my second term this year. Interfaith Ministries is a faith-based organization that began as a ministry from the 1979 tornado disaster recovery efforts. When I worked in the Rx Department as a volunteer I was amazed to see the number of clients that we could serve who could not otherwise afford their medications. Although I have not served as a volunteer for almost two years, I am starting again this week! IMI fills a tremendous need in our community and is much appreciated by its clients
In 1979, our city suffered through a tragic tornado. I am a very active United Methodist Christian. I was asked by the City of Wichita Falls to chair a reconstruction/redevelopment Committee after the tornado. Shortly after the Committee started to work, the Pastor of FUMC called me to tell me that the UMCOR of the Untied Methodist Church had sent huge monetary valued check to be used in our City. We talked a while and it was his idea to start a Faith based organization to help the victims fo the disster recover. That was the begining of Interfaith Ministries. It help so many people in the recovery.
