Following Cyclone Debbie here in Australia we needed some quick intelligence on the extent of damage to cellular networks, which HR were able to provide quickly and painlessly. We are already using that data to help further build resilience in Australia. Without HR's support, this information would have been much more difficult for us to find. Also, the history of HR's situation reports provides an invaluable longitudinal data set on the impact of disasters on communications and other vital services.
As a volunteer it brings me joy to help Humanity Road. The way this team springs into action to help those who need help is simply amazing. Their training and exercises are like none I have ever attended. This work gives me purpose in life to help others. I didn't have much insight to the world outside of the US until volunteering for HR. I enjoy interacting with volunteers from around the world. Thank you Humanity Road for all you do in helping people sustain, survive, and reunite during and after a disaster.
Have had a brief time working with Humanity Road and must say the people are amazing. They very much care about the world and the events that affect others around the world. I have been very thankful to have met them and continue to work with them in many aspects. thank you for the great work all of you do.
Humanity Road (HR) is a unique not for profit organisation that remain steadfast and focused on what they are good at - 'closing the black hole of communication' by linking disaster affected communities to the emergency response organisations.
As a volunteer, i can attest to the fact that at Humanity Road, they matched words with action. In fact, i witnessed a moment where HR volunteers monitored three tropical storms, three hurricanes, two earthquakes and two disaster exercise within 48 hours.
HR volunteers are always eager to provide help, train volunteers and make a difference.
Humanity Road is one of the most inspiring and relevant non profits that I have worked with in recent times.
With a passion to help people during the disasters, the tools, support, the volunteers are always there providing reliable and accurate data & information.
A truly digital humanitarian organisation in spirit & grit making sure there is always someone to help!
I have worked with HumanityRoad for a number of years. During this time, I have managed a number of disasters and planned events.
Humanity Road has consistently been involved on a global scale while maintaining their interest in what happens locally.
Humanity Road is an excellent Non-Profit.
As a student , the ways in which I am being benefitted from being a part of this organization are:-
1) Practical and global exposure to what I am learning in class
2)Work at my convenience
3) Systematic training provided periodically or as per request
Humanity Road is a dedicated non-profit with a global volunteer network. Their training, tools, and support are fantastic and the volunteers are vigilant in producing accurate and reliable information during times of disaster and crisis. With Humanity Road there will always be someone there to respond and help those in need!
Humanity Road is a very special organization driven by very special people. I joined the team as a volunteer in the wake of the recent Nepal earthquake. Since then, I have been trained in various activities of the organization. I have realized that Humanity Road fills a critical gap between formal disaster response systems and real-time deployments. Using technology as an essential tool, Humanity Road has been of commendable service in situations where prompt interventions are needed. The work they do is outstanding, and the dedication of the team to an urgent need is remarkable.
HR is working in an Industry Consortium called the Network Centric Operations Industry Consortium (NCOIC) to advance interoperability in our Rapid Response Incubator. These efforts hope someday to enable all parties involved in disasters, from victims to governments, front line to back office, even gamers and social networkers, to operate at their best in a secure-enough fashion to speed and lower the cost of response. Remember, we could all become the victims at any moment, if things go badly. HR is there, wherever there is.
Two months ago I came across Humanity Road while doing research for my Master Thesis on improving online data repositories for humanitarian logistics and I decided to give it a go for the following reasons: A) I believe that the idea behind Humanity Road and what they are doing to support disaster response shows great promise as the world keeps globalizing and more an more people get access to the internet and B) to learn more about the world of humanitarian logistics.
It goes to show that I was right to join for these reasons, since when I joined I immediately landed in the response to Cyclone Pam and could experience first hand what a difference HR can make in the world. Furthermore, Vice President Cat Graham has been exceptionally helpful in answering all my questions and aiding me in better understanding the world of humanitarian logistics. All in all, I'm very happy I joined HR!
I joined Humanity Road about a month ago in order to learn more about public health emergencies and nonprofits. Humanity Road is a community of very welcoming and warm people who are eager to find opportunities for you to develop the skills you are interested in. I'm looking forward to volunteering more with this incredible organization.
I joined Humanity Road 2 months ago and it’s been the most fulfilling volunteer experience I’ve ever had. I really enjoyed working with this group of warm-hearted and dedicated individuals who are always ready to assist people affected by disasters. The leadership is very supportive, encouraging and provides lots of opportunities to learn and grow. I am very happy that I found this organization and would love to keep working with them.
I recently joined Humanity Road as a volunteer and I’ve been so happy with my time so far. Everyone has been so helpful in teaching me new skills and welcoming me to the team. The teams are well organized and flexible; I have been able to work at my own pace as I learn the details of a social media focused. Very happy I joined!
Humanity Road worked with Florida State University to develop the 28th Annual Governor's Hurricane Conference's first social media exercise. It was a resounding success and we plan to conduct another one next year. Social media has become an integral part of emergency management so this exercise and related training sessions and workshops were very beneficial to our attendees. We are most appreciative of Humanity Road's support.
Working with Humanity Road is one of the most rewarding experiences I've had in my many years of volunteer. Exemplary leadership, training and support for digital disaster response.
I found Humanity Road after reading an article by Bill Lohmann in the Richmond (VA) Times Dispatch. Working with HMRD as a volunteer has been rewarding and challenging. I've learned so much about how this incredible organziation helps people via disseminating accurate and timely information during crisis, whether it's a natual disaster like atornado, an earthquake, a blizzard, or a hurricane or a manmade one like the bombings in Boston. I am honored to be a volunteer with this organization and plan to continue contributing my skills and energy.
Cat Graham, vice president and cofounder of Humanity Road, gave an excellent presentation on Disaster Response in the Digital Age to our staff and volunteers at a local chapter of the American Red Cross where she shared her experiences, and that of Humanity Road's, in providing virtual humanitarian response to those individuals affected by disasters around the world. Its innovative strategies as an Internet-based crisis response organization, paired with its dedicated group of global volunteers, has positioned Humanity Road as a leader in virtual disaster communications. i've been a volunteer with different organizations for many years, and I've never seen such a dedicated group of people, led by two equally dedicated leaders, Chris Thompson and Cat Graham, as you will find with Humanity Road. It is an organization worthy of your support.
I was involved personally with this organization in an effort to help stranded persons during a flood in the Dominican Republic. The effort paid off and people who were at high risk of being overrun by high waters were transported to a safer location. Great organization.
I have been associated with Humanity Road as a volunteer since 2011. I have worked with the team in responding to several disasters and the dedication of the other volunteers constantly amazes me. As someone who creates social media analysis tools, I find their approach to disaster response very innovative. Volunteering at Humanity Road has been a wonderful learning experience for me and I will continue to help in whatever way I can.
I've been a volunteer with Humanity Road since from past one year. I've experienced the importance, role and scope of the internet technology and social media during emergency with Humanity Road. It save people and animals lives through first aid advice and other life-saving information on social media. I'm learning with Humanity Road team and enjoying too.
